The parents of South Australian missing four‑year‑old August “Gus” Lamont have broken their silence, issuing a raw and desperate plea for information nearly five months after their little boy vanished from a remote outback sheep station.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Josh and Jess Lamont said they were “united in grief” and begged anyone with even the smallest detail to come forward.

“We are united in our search for answers about what happened to our little boy, Gus, who means everything to us,” they said.

“Our lives have been shattered, and every moment without him is unbearable.

“If someone knows what happened, we are pleading with that person — or anyone who may have seen or heard anything — to please come forward. Even the smallest detail could give us the answers we so desperately need.”

The family also released new video and another pH๏τograph of Gus, hoping it may jog someone’s memory.

They thanked police, emergency services, ADF personnel, volunteers, specialists, friends and supporters who have spent months searching the vast outback region around Oak Park Station.

“Your kindness has helped carry us through the darkest days of our lives,” they said.

“All we want is to bring Gus home and understand what happened to our beautiful boy.”

Gus was last seen on September 27, playing outside the Oak Park outback homestead near Yunta while his grandmother cared for his younger brother inside, according to family.

Despite one of the state’s largest search operations — involving police, SES volunteers, Indigenous trackers, drones and helicopters — no significant trace of the child has been found.

The only confirmed physical clue remains a single footprint discovered about 500m from the property.

South Australian Police last week confirmed they now have a suspect in the disappearance, formally declaring the case a major crime.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said investigators had identified “a number of inconsistencies and discrepancies” in information provided by family members.

“As a result, a person who resides at Oak Park Station has withdrawn their support for police and is no longer co-operating,” he said.

“That person is now considered a suspect in the disappearance of Gus.”

Police stressed the suspect is not either of Gus’s parents.
