Elizabeth Olsen returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year, but many have been wondering if her time as Wanda Maximoff is about to get restarted. The MCU timeline has brought many heroes and villains back from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, whether it’s through traditional resurrections or using the multiverse angle.
In a new interview with InStyle, the MCU veteran was asked whether the main version of her character is actually still alive after Wanda died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, Olsen, who began her time with the franchise through 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, stated that she has “no idea” if Scarlet Witch is actually out there.
And goofy. It’s ridiculous. We’re grown people behaving like children on a playground. We’re flying. We’re shooting things out of our hands. And it’s a character that I’ve gotten to return to so many times over 10 years. It’s good to put her down and then I miss her and I want her back. I’d jump at the opportunity to be in her shoes again.
An alternative version of Wanda appeared in September, as the actor voiced her own variant in the animated Marvel Zombies TV show. Olsen, however, had forgotten she had recorded lines for the Disney+ series, “I recorded that so long ago, I’m sorry. It’s so crazy that… I feel terrible that I don’t… I can’t speak more to it.”
There have been many theories that the Scarlet Witch will make her way back in The Multiverse Saga — live-action wise — for Phase 6, especially with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies. While the 2026 installment wrapped filming on September 19, 2025, the 2027 entry has yet to begin.
Kevin Feige noted during CinemaCon on April 3, 2025, that the whole Avengers: Doomsday cast hasn’t been revealed yet. However, Olsen denied to The Hollywood Reporter on March 24, 2025, that she would be in either Phase 6 films, stating, “No, I’m back [in the States]. I just finished [Panic Carefully]. I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters].“
One potential project that would make the most sense for Olsen’s character to pop up is the VisionQuest TV show, which serves as the third installment in the WandaVision trilogy, with her series being the one that launched it. The Disney+ drama will focus on Paul Bettany’s beloved Avenger, while also introducing an older Tommy Maximoff, played by Ruaridh Mollica.
The next installment for the MCU on the big screen will be Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, while Disney+’s Wonder Man is slated to premiere in January 2026.
