Troll 2 has received its first trailer. The upcoming film is a sequel to Netflix’s Norwegian-language monster movie Troll, which follows a ragtag group of individuals who join forces to stop an ancient troll that was awakened in a Norwegian mountain from causing widespread destruction.
With a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score, Troll received positive reviews from critics for its rich mythology and exciting action. Released in December 2022, Troll is Netflix’s most watched non-English movie of all time with 103 million views. The sequel Troll 2 entered development in September 2023, with filming beginning in 2024.
Now, Netflix has released the first official trailer for Troll 2. As a new troll has risen, Nora, Andreas, and Captain Kris return to face their biggest challenge yet, and as time is running out and chaos looms, they must team up with new allies and uncover long-lost secrets to halt the destruction in time to save Norway before disaster strikes. Troll 2 is directed once again by Roar Uthaug, with a script written by Espen Aukan. Its full synopsis can be read below:
When a dangerous new troll is awakened, unleashing devastation across Norway, beloved adventurers Nora, Andreas and Captain Kris are thrust into their most perilous mission yet. To stop the creature’s ruthless rampage, they must enlist new allies and delve into the country’s ancient history, searching for answers. As the clock ticks and the troll’s path of destruction grows wider, our heroes face impossible odds in their fight to save their homeland from falling into darkness.
The sequel features the return of Ine Marie Wilmann as Nora, Kim Falck as Andreas, and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen as Captain Kris. Other returning cast members include Jon Ketil Johnsen as Professor Møller, Gard B. Eidsvold as Tobias Tidemann, and Trond Magnum as Lars Gundersen. New cast members include Sara Khorami and Aksel Almaas.
With a returning writer, director, and cast members, Troll 2 should see similar success as the first film when the sequel releases on Netflix on December 1. Though the first film didn’t revolutionize the monster movie genre and was criticized by audiences for its predictable plot, cheesy dialogue, and inconsistent acting – it did become Netflix’s most watched non-English movie of all time.
Troll 2 can continue what the original movie did sp well by expanding on its rich mythology and exciting action, with the trailer teasing an epic tale with even greater stakes, more lethal danger, and a formidable new megatroll wreaking havoc across Norway.
