Tubi TV is continuing to make content more accessible, as an entirely free streaming platform, being supported by ads. This streaming library currently holds countless тιтles that will allow audiences to learn much about the history of film. But in the coming weeks, Tubi will offer viewers the chance to survey three of the best films of all time.
Via the Tubi website, it has been confirmed that 1972’s The Godfather, 1997’s тιтanic, and 2000’s Gladiator will all be added to the streaming platform on November 1. All three movies won the Academy Award for Best Picture at their respective ceremonies and are considered to be landmarks of cinema and their cast and crew’s careers.
James Cameron’s тιтanic launched both Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet to international fame. The tragic period piece showcases stunning production and costume design, while incorporating a lot of the real history of the тιтanic’s only voyage. тιтanic holds the all-time record for the most Oscar nominations ever for a single movie (14) and is tied with two other тιтles for the most wins (11).
Gladiator is the optimal example of director Ridley Scott’s work in the epic historical fiction space, which won Russell Crowe the Oscar for Best Lead Actor. The straightforward but nuanced story plays out against the backdrop of the sprawling landscape of Ancient Rome, with some stellar action sequences. Gladiator eventually got an underwhelming legacy sequel in Gladiator 2, with Gladiator 3 now in development.
Finally, The Godfather is a contender for *the* best movie of all time. The first outing sets up the famed trilogy exploring themes of family, loyalty, ambition, and the American Dream, following the Corleone family’s crime dynasty after the youngest son, Michael (Al Pacino), is thrust into the role of leading it all. The 1972 movie is perhaps only surpᴀssed by The Godfather Part II.
In addition to many other тιтles being added to Tubi in the next month, these three cornerstones of cinema will be available to watch for free. A potential downside is that the ads which support Tubi will pad these films’ extensive runtimes (with Gladiator being the shortest at 2 hours and 35 minutes).
