Netflix has announced that its global phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters will be in theaters again very soon, back by popular demand. KPop Demon Hunters, which premiered in June 2025, was an instant smash hit and, over time, amᴀssed enough views to become the most-viewed Netflix movie of all time. It also maintains a Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 95%.
The genre-bending story revolving around Huntr/x, the fictional K-pop girl group/demon hunters, has become so popular that it was a given that Netflix and Sony would start hashing out a KPop Demon Hunters sequel. Co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans have also spoken about a potential follow-up and are eager to return.
After becoming an unprecedented success on the streaming platform, KPop Demon Hunters was briefly released in movie theaters at the end of August. Now, it is confirmed that KPop Demon Hunters will be in theaters again for another sing-along event from October 31 to November 2. The fantasy musical adventure will be in select AMC, Regal, and Cinemark theaters.
KPop Demon Hunters topped the box office for its short theatrical run earlier this year, grossing $18 million worldwide over the weekend. So, it makes plenty of sense that Netflix would offer this experience again for guaranteed box office profits. Additionally, this outing marks a shift as AMC is also screening KPop Demon Hunters, despite sitting it out last time.
AMC Theatres and Netflix have historically disagreed on the streamer’s short release theatrical windows. The fact that AMC is participating now speaks to the draw of KPop Demon Hunters. An AMC spokesperson said in a statement that now “both Netflix and AMC are intrigued by the mutually beneficial opportunities that could arise from this and future collaboration.“
KPop Demon Hunters is also the frontrunner for Best Animated Feature for the 2026 Oscars, as well as a probable contender for the fiercely compeтιтive Best Original Song category. Therefore, it seems highly likely that the movie will be in theaters once again as the Academy Awards ceremony draws closer, as well as potentially during the 2025 holiday season.
Of course, this sets up the forthcoming KPop Demon Hunters sequel to be a major theatrical release. Industry experts are skeptical that the movie would have become such a sensational success had it debuted theatrically; the culture of the streaming era definitely helped it along. But now that the fanbase exists, the next movie may be the biggest thing the box office has seen in a long time.
