Prime Video’s Hit Movie Gets Sequel тιтle, Director & Returning Cast

Red, White & Royal Blue, with its love story between a British prince and the son of the US President, quickly became a mᴀssive streaming hit on Prime Video when the film premiered in 2023. To little surprise, a Red, White & Royal Blue sequel has officially been announced, but there are going to be some changes from the original romantic comedy.

Prime Video announced on October 15 that it greenlit the sequel, which has the new тιтle Red, White & Royal Wedding. Also Jamie Babbit, an Emmy-nominated director of Silicon Valley and Only Murders in the Building, as well as the cult film But I’m a Cheerleader, has been brought on to direct, taking over from Matthew López, who co-wrote the sequel’s script with Gemma Burgess and Casey McQuiston, author of the original novel.

Something that is not changing are the two leads, as stars Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez are both set to reprise their roles as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz. At this time there is no confirmation what other Red, White & Royal Blue cast members are set to return for the sequel.

Unlike the original movie, McQuiston has not written a novel for Red, White & Royal Wedding to be based on. However, even though plot details are being kept under wraps, from the new тιтle we can guess that the movie will be centered around a royal wedding.

After seeing the incredible outpouring of love for Red, White & Royal Blue from fans around the world, it’s clear Alex and Henry’s story truly resonated with audiences,” said Julie Rapaport, head of film, production and development for Amazon MGM Studios. “We couldn’t be more excited to continue that journey with Jamie Babbit at the helm.”

Red, White & Royal Blue premiered on Prime Video on August 11 and quickly became a hit. Within its first weekend it became one of the top three most-watched romantic comedies of all time on the streaming platform. Critics also enjoyed the movie, giving it a “Certified Fresh” score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes; audiences have given the film a 92% positive score on RT.

McQuiston also offered a comment about the upcoming sequel:

I’m so grateful to Matthew for all his hard work on the first movie and in co-creating this new story with me, and I know that Jamie has the vision, wit, and tenderness to take great care of Alex and Henry from here.

There is no timeline for a release for Red, White & Royal Wedding at this time.
