Shudder’s Viral Horror Movie Is Now One Of Their Biggest Box Office Hits Ever

Good Boy is climbing a major box office chart. The new horror movie stars director Ben Leonberg’s dog Indy as a pet whose owner is under siege by supernatural forces. The movie went viral off the back of the trailer revealing its unusual protagonist, leading to a surge in Google searches inquiring if Indy survives the ending of Good Boy.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as of Sunday morning, Good Boy is projected to end its sophomore weekend with a 3-day total of $1.36 million at the domestic box office. This will bring its cumulative domestic haul to $4.8 million.

While this looks like a meager total when the movie is compared to other 2025 horror movies, including Sinners ($278.6 million domestic), Final Destination Bloodlines ($138.1 million), The Conjuring: Last Rites ($170.3 million), and Weapons ($151.1 million), Good Boy has pulled off a remarkable achievement.

By hitting this cumulative domestic total after just 10 days in theaters, the new Shudder horror movie has surged up the chart of the horror streamer’s highest-grossing тιтles in history. Because their original movies are designed to be streaming exclusives rather than theatrical smash hits, they operate on a much smaller scale than Hollywood horror blockbusters.

With its $4.8 million haul, Good Boy has scurried past the $4.2 million gross earned by the 2024 slasher hit In a Violent Nature (which is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 78% score) to become Shudder’s second highest-grossing theatrical feature in history, behind only 2024’s Late Night with the Devil ($10 million).

Even though Good Boy reviews have been superb, earning it a Certified Fresh 90% Rotten Tomatoes score, it seems unlikely to surpᴀss Late Night with the Devil, which had already hit a cumulative domestic total of $6.2 million by the same point in its own theatrical run.

Regardless, Good Boy has cemented itself as a major box office success for Shudder. In fact, the streamer had never had a theatrical тιтle gross more than $1 million before 2024.

Shudder’s fourth highest-grossing movie is 2024’s Oddity ($1.2 million), while its fifth is 2023’s When Evil Lurks ($546,626).

It remains to be seen if any of Shudder’s upcoming 2025 releases, such as the LGBTQ+ zombie movie Queens of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ (which was directed by George A. Romero’s daughter Tina Romero), have the same kind of traction. However, the success of Good Boy could potentially encourage them to distribute even more of their original horror тιтles in theaters in the future.
