Lilo & Sтιтch 2 Gets Major Update From Nani Star

Disney’s Lilo and Sтιтch live-action remake is getting a sequel, and the actress who played the character Nani has provided a major update for the upcoming movie.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actress Sydney Agudong spoke about the highly anticipated sequel and shared that filming will begin early next year. “Chris Sanders is writing it right now. Our timeline is Maia’s height and maturity,” Agudong stated.

Disney’s remake of Lilo and Sтιтch was released earlier this year and was one of the only Disney live-action remakes to receive surprisingly positive reviews. The film follows a lonely Hawaiian girl named Lilo (played by Maia Kealoha) as she befriends a fugitive alien named Sтιтch. The film also starred Zach Galifianakis as Jumba and Billy Magnussen as Pleakley.

Agudong’s comments regarding Kealoha’s “height and maturity” are a concern among many for not only this project, but many sequels, including TV shows such as Stranger Things, with big breaks in between seasons and a strange difference in maturity for the younger cast each season.

The original Lilo and Sтιтch was an animation released in 2002 and is a true Disney classic for fans worldwide. It has an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the remake has a respectable 72%. Not everyone warmed to the remake as the story was altered for the adaptation.

The 2002 movie featured alien Gantu as one of the film’s primary villains, but he was removed in the remake. Gantu was originally hoping to capture Sтιтch to return him to prison, so instead they made the lovable Jumba more of a villain to replace the missing character and help push the plot forward.

There are no key details as of yet regarding plot or release date, but Disney’s original Lilo and Sтιтch 2: Sтιтch Has a Glitch could be where the live-action adaptation is headed next. The sequel didn’t receive great feedback and only had a 42% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the premise is strong and could potentially outperform as a live-action remake.

2025’s Lilo and Sтιтch is one of the highest-grossing movies of this year and grossed over $1 billion at the box office, followed closely behind by A Minecraft Movie. The film also broke a record and became the biggest Memorial Day weekend opening in history, grossing $183 million during that period.

Lilo and Sтιтch is Agudong’s first major Hollywood role, but she has had smaller roles in TV shows such as NCIS and On My Block. She has an upcoming project тιтled Ether, which currently doesn’t have a release date.
