Is Grogu More Powerful In The Force Than Luke Skywalker & Yoda?

There’s no arguing the fact that Grogu may be one of the most powerful Force-users we’ve ever seen in Star Wars, which begs the question of how he compares to other notable Force-users, especially those who are most closely related to him. The first two who come to mind, naturally, are Yoda and Luke Skywalker.

With Yoda being a member of Grogu’s unidentified species, Luke having trained Grogu for a short period of time, and Yoda having trained Luke, these three are all worthy of comparison with one another. Grogu is seen to be undoubtedly powerful throughout The Mandalorian, but does he truly measure up to either one of these famed Jedi?

Grogu’s Young Age Reflects His Current Force Potential

Before diving too far into this discussion, it’s important to note that Grogu is still very young. His species lives until they are hundreds of years old, and he’s just barely above the age of fifty. He was lovingly called “Baby Yoda” for a reason; Grogu is still very much an adolescent, and thus not at the peak of his power.

That being said, he is also extremely powerful for someone his age. Grogu was able to lift a mudhorn, a creature far larger than himself, with the Force after having let his powers go dormant for countless years without much training. He could also heal people’s wounds with the Force. Those are not small feats in the slightest.

Grogu’s Power In The Force Seems To Match Yoda’s

Grogu’s Force power potential does seem to reflect Yoda’s thus far, even if their approaches to using the Force have varied wildly. Yoda had hundreds of years of experience and training as a Jedi, making him the Jedi Grandmaster he was before the Jedi Order’s fall, which certainly gives him a mᴀssive experiential advantage.

Yoda is known for being a very powerful being, but it’s always been theorized that his rare species has much to do with it, and Grogu seems to be proof of that. It’s not hard to imagine Grogu being able to do all the same things in the Force that Yoda could.

As mentioned earlier, Grogu lifted the mudhorn, similarly to how Yoda lifted Luke Skywalker’s X-wing on Dagobah. Grogu can also use the Force to ᴀssist in acrobatics the same way Yoda always did in lightsaber duels, which works hand-in-hand with their smaller size. It thus seems likely that these two are a more even match.

Grogu Hasn’t Quite Reached Luke Skywalker’s Level Of Power

It’s hard to match up to the son of the Chosen One, and it seems clear at this point that Grogu cannot quite compete with Luke’s power in the Force. There are a lot of impressive and powerful things Grogu can do, but Luke’s Force feats still run laps around Grogu’s, which is what makes him an excellent teacher.

Luke’s rescue scene in The Mandalorian season 2 finale demonstrates this quite plainly. Luke is seen crushing at least one of Moff Gideon’s Dark Troopers with the Force alone, something Grogu never once attempted throughout his captivity, despite the fact he had several opportunities to.

Again, age plays a role here, but Grogu has technically had more precise Jedi training than Luke at this point. Luke has been training in the ways of the Jedi for a maximum of nine years at this point, whereas Grogu would have trained at the Jedi Temple for a similar amount of time, if not more, prior to Order 66.

It seems more than reasonable to say, then, that Luke is certainly more powerful than Grogu. Of course, this doesn’t diminish all Grogu can accomplish in the Force, and how impressive it is for someone of his young age – especially considering that he can match up quite evenly with Yoda.
