Elvis Returns! Long-Lost Elvis Presley Concert Movie To Release In 2026

After the likes of Austin Butler and Jacob Elordi recently portrayed Elvis Presley on screen, the King himself is making a comeback in 2026 thanks to a new concert movie constructed from long-lost footage of Presley performances.

Multiple outlets reported on Thursday, October 9, that Neon and Universal Pictures Content Group acquired the US and international rights to EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, made by Baz Luhrmann, whose most recent directorial effort was 2022’s Elvis starring Butler. While an exact date has not been announced, the plan is to release the concert film in theaters in 2026.

Luhrmann constructed the movie from previously thought lost footage from Presley’s Las Vegas residency during the 1970s, while also featuring 16mm footage from the 1972 documentary Elvis on Tour, 8mm footage from the Graceland archive, and recordings of Presley telling “his side of the story.”

In a statement announcing the acquisition, Luhrmann said that ever since he discovered the rare and never-before-seen footage eight years ago, “it has been our mission that Elvis should finally fulfill his unrealized dream to tour around the world.” He says that will include the concert film playing in small towns and big cities.

EPiC actually already began its worldwide tour when it premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. There it received solid reviews from critics, as the movie sits at an 86% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes as of writing.

Concert and music-related films have been doing strong at the box office in recent years, as shown by the top 10 highest-grossing concert films of the 21st century. Most recently, Taylor Swift was #1 at the box office again with her Life of a Showgirl release party film. If Luhrmann’s previous Elvis movie is any clue, EPiC could be another high-grossing concert film.

Elvis made $288.67 million at the worldwide box office, showing that audiences still had an interest in the King. The movie would also add eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, though it ultimately didn’t win any.

Presley himself was no stranger to the screen. He starred in 31 movies across his career, among his notable being Jailhouse Rock and Blue Hawaii. He also had two previously released concert films, 1970’s Elvis – That’s The Way It Is and the aforementioned Elvis on Tour. Prior to that, he had his notable TV special, Singer Presents… Elvis, which is also known as his ’68 Comeback Special.

EPiC will arrive in movie theaters almost 50 years after Presley’s death.
