Stephen King’s The Long Walk Hits Crucial Box Office Milestone In One Month

The Long Walk has hit a major milestone at the global box office. The dystopian movie, which follows 50 teenage boys competing in a life-or-death walking compeтιтion, is based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. The Long Walk cast includes Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Ben Wang, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill.

Per Box Office Mojo, The Long Walk has reached a cumulative worldwide box office total of $45.4 million just days before the end of its first full month in theaters. This comprises a domestic gross of $32.2 million and an additional $13.2 million from international markets.

The Long Walk, which is the third of four Stephen King movies to hit theaters in 2025 (after The Monkey and The Life of Chuck and ahead of The Running Man), has therefore now become the 48th movie of the year to pᴀss the $45 million global milestone.

It has pulled ahead of a number of other major wide releases of 2025, including M3GAN 2.0 ($39.1 million), Novocaine ($34.5 million), Wolf Man ($34.1 million), Warfare ($33.6 million), Heart Eyes ($33.1 million), and Caught Stealing ($31.5 million).

What This Means For The Long Walk

Movies often need to earn two and a half times their budgets, so The Long Walk‘s reported budget of $20 million could place its estimated break-even point somewhere around $50 million. It may very well hit that benchmark before the end of its theatrical run, but there is a high likelihood that it does not even need to.

This is because The Long Walk is a Lionsgate project. The company is known for mitigating potential financial risk via a variety of measures, including covering production budgets with international pre-sales and low acquisition costs for their distribution-only тιтles (while The Long Walk is being distributed by Lionsgate, it was produced by Vertigo Entertainment and About:Blank).

Therefore, it is entirely possible that it had already pᴀssed its break-even point long before hitting the $45 million global milestone. Even if its break-even point is $50 million and it doesn’t hit that milestone in theaters, it should easily make up the difference from VOD purchases and rentals as well as streaming revenue down the line.

Additionally, though the release of The Long Walk has been slowing down at the box office as it approaches a full month in theaters, October is a time when audiences typically view horror movies at an even higher rate than average, in honor of Halloween. Therefore, it’s possible that it could continue to climb the charts over the next few weeks.
