After months of uncertainty, Ocean’s 14 is now confirmed, with George Clooney providing a filming timeline for the sequel. Whether the film would move forward after Ocean’s Thirteen back in 2007 and the female-led Ocean’s 8 reboot in 2018 has long been a question mark.
Speaking to E! News, Clooney now reveals that Warner Bros. has approved the proposed budget for Ocean’s 14. Though there is no firm filming start date just yet, the Danny Ocean star says a summer 2026 start for shooting is likely. Check out his comment below:
“We just got the budget approved at Warner Brothers. It’s just scheduling, so it’s just getting a start date for us. We’ll probably start [shooting] in about nine or ten months.
As for how Clooney feels about reuniting with key members of the Ocean’s franchise cast, the star makes clear that everybody has stayed fairly close in the years since the last installment:
“Brad [Pitt], Matt [Damon], and Don [Cheadle], and Julia [Roberts]. I had dinner last night with Julia. They’re all still really dear friends, so the chance to work together will be fun.”
Though the upcoming film will mark a long-awaited reunion for several core cast members, Clooney and Pitt did just recently work together on Apple’s 2024 crime thriller Wolfs. Outside of the Ocean‘s franchise, Clooney will next appear in Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly next month, and Pitt continued his Apple relationship with F1: The Movie this past summer.
Damon, meanwhile, has the buzziest project of the bunch coming up in the form of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which is already shaping up to be the biggest movie of next year. From Clooney’s comment, it sounds like Damon could be starting production on Ocean’s 14 right around the time Nolan’s Oppenheimer follow-up hits theaters.
What Clooney doesn’t confirm in his comment is whether franchise veteran Steven Soderbergh will return. Soderbergh directed the first three installments before handing the baton over to Gary Ross for the 2018 reboot. A Variety report from this past January claimed that Bullet Train (2022) and The Fall Guy (2024) director David Leitch was in talks to direct, but it’s not clear whether this is still the case.
It should also be noted that Ocean’s 14 isn’t the only franchise project in the pipeline. It was revealed during the summer that an Ocean’s Eleven prequel is also in development, with Twisters (2024) director Lee Isaac Chung expected to helm the film.
With a tentative filming timeline now in place, more news about Ocean’s 14 will likely be arriving in the coming months as more details get ironed out. It remains unclear, for example, what the story of the film will be, and an official logline is sure to tease more about what’s become of Danny, Rusty, and the gang since audiences last saw them 18 years ago.
