10 New Horror Movies You Can Catch Up With On Streaming

With October here, there are plenty of newer horror movies available on streaming services this month to celebrate the arrival of Halloween. While there are plenty of great classic horror movies available on every streaming service for fans to enjoy, several great modern horror films have been released over the last two years.

Horror fans who have subscriptions to streaming services such as Amazon, HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock, Prime Video, and more have plenty of options if they want to catch up on some newer releases. These include some great horror sequels and some original horror films that are unlike anything fans have seen before.

This only includes movies released since 2024 and available to view on streaming services in October 2025.

Smile 2 (2024) – Prime Video

Smile was a critically acclaimed new horror movie when it was released in 2022, and it ended up so popular that a sequel was greenlit and arrived in 2024. The two movies shared the same basic plotline and even featured a character from the first film who appeared in the sequel.

However, Smile 2 took things in a much bigger direction. While the first film focused on one person dealing with trauma and its effects on her, the second attempted to build a larger world. The second film featured a major pop star dealing with the demonic presence, which opened up the story for a possible major turn.

The next movie could present a post-apocalyptic world thanks to the twist in the Smile 2 ending, and this film is available for anyone to catch up on, as it is currently streaming on Prime Video.

M3GAN 2.0 (2025) – Peacock

Another sequel arrived in 2025, this one for the surprisingly popular M3GAN from 2022, which was the latest in the line of killer doll movies. However, the sequel arrived in 2025, тιтled M3GAN 2.0, and it took a direction similar to the Terminator franchise, where it made the original killer the new protector.

This was not a shock, though, compared to Terminator 2: Judgment Day, because M3GAN was the protector in the first movie, and the people she killed were those she thought were either a danger or cruel to Cady. In the new film, she needs to protect Cady and her aunt from a new, more dangerous AI creation.

The film was not as highly reviewed as the first, which was mostly praised for its campy nature. However, it was still a solid horror feature that prioritized entertainment over scares and continued to establish M3GAN as a cult favorite horror icon.

Longlegs (2024) – Hulu

Longlegs was a 2024 horror film by cult-favorite director Osgood Perkins, shocking audiences with its portrayal of an FBI agent tracking a serial killer with a taste for the occult. What really made this stand out was the surprise villain, who was never clearly seen, but was still portrayed by Nicolas Cage.

The horror movie was a surprise hit in 2024, grossing over $128 million on a budget of less than $10 million, and it became Neon’s highest-grossing movie of the year. It was also highly praised, with an 86% fresh Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics lauding its mood and Cage’s offbeat performance.

Guillermo del Toro praised the film and director Perkins, and Paul Schrader also complimented the directing in the movie. For anyone who missed out on it, Longlegs is available to stream on Hulu in October 2025.

Abigail (2024) – Peacock

Abigail was an extremely fun vampire horror movie, although anyone going in blind would have no idea that was the genre of horror they were to expect. Of course, the trailers spoiled the twist, so most people knew this going in, but it didn’t spoil the fun of watching the movie in any way.

Several name actors appear in the movie, including Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, and Kevin Durand, but the real star here is Alisha Weir, the 14-year-old who played Abigail. The plot involved six criminals hired to watch over Abigail for 24 hours, unaware that they were being sacrificed to the young vampire girl.

When Abigail begins to attack and feed on the criminals, that is when the movie starts to shine, and this was a surprise hit for anyone who loves fun and thrilling horror movies, with just the right amount of gore.

The Monkey (2025) – Hulu

The Monkey is a 2025 horror movie based on a classic Stephen King short story. The second great Osgood Perkins horror movie from the last two years, following Longlegs, this film was very different from his previous release. This was a campy and fun horror comedy that was full of blood and gore.

Theo James stars as a young man who ends up with a wind-up drum-playing toy monkey that turns out to be a cursed toy. Those who possess it often end up involved in terrible accidents, with many of them similar to the ones depicted in the Final Destination movies. However, this film has much gorier endings.

The film was not as critically acclaimed as Longlegs, but it nonetheless received positive reviews. It was also a much lesser box office success, although for anyone who loves dark horror comedies, it is well worth watching.

I Saw The TV Glow (2024) – HBO Max

I Saw the TV Glow is one of the most unique and fascinating horror movies released this decade. Directed by Jane Schoenbrun, the film stars Justice Smith and Jack Haven as two teenagers obsessed with a fictional television show called The Pink Opaque.

However, as the movie progresses, it becomes clear that this TV series is much more than either of them had believed. Haven plays Maddy, and when the character disappears, Smith’s Owen has to figure out what it might have to do with the television show, which was canceled shortly after the disappearance.

The movie was highly acclaimed and served as a clear allegory for the transgender experience, highlighting the challenges of fitting into specific parts of society. Critics praised the story and performances, and it received several award nominations at the end of 2024.

Alien: Romulus (2024) – Hulu

After watching the recent hit television series Alien: Earth, fans may want to rewatch earlier movies in the franchise, which are all available to stream on various services. While nothing beats the original Alien and its sequel, Aliens, the newest film, Alien: Resurrection, is available to stream on Hulu.

This film, directed by Fede Álvarez, is the closest that the franchise has come to pure horror since the first Alien movie. The film takes place between the events of Alien and Aliens, and it also features numerous Easter eggs from all the other films in the franchise.

While too many Easter eggs could weigh it down, the good news is that Alien: Romulus stands on its own, and it is arguably the best Alien movie since the second one, and a solid horror flick in its own right.

Nosferatu (2024) – Prime Video

Nosferatu was one of the best horror movies released in 2024, although its atmospheric and throw-back horror feel was polarizing for some viewers. Directed by Robert Eggers, this was the third major version of the story, which started as a German Expressionist film when F.W. Murnau couldn’t secure the rights to Dracula.

Bill Skarsgård starred as the vampire Count Orlok, who sets his sights on a woman named Ellen (Lily Depp), whom he believes is the reincarnation of his past love. Nicholas Hoult also stars as Thomas Hutter, this version’s equivalent of Dracula’s Jonathan Harker. Willem Defoe also appeared as a vampire hunter.

The movie earned four Oscar nominations and received an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics. The cinematography was breathtaking, and while it didn’t stray too much from the original story, Nosferatu was still different enough to stand on its own as a brilliant new horror movie.

28 Years Later (2025) – Netflix

28 Years Later just came out in 2025, and it has already hit streaming, available right now on Netflix. With its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, set to release at the start of 2026, it is a perfect time to watch this installment, which marks a new direction for the franchise.

28 Years Later, as the name indicates, takes place 28 years after the original virus rocked Europe. The country has gotten it under control, although there are still infected terrorizing a part of the country that was quarantined off from society, despite there still being people living in the affected areas.

Danny Boyle returned for this edition of the franchise after not directing the first sequel. This enabled the film to achieve greater success, both critically and commercially.

Sinners (2025) – HBO Max

One of the best movies of 2025, and one of the best vampire movies ever made, Sinners is currently streaming on HBO Max in October, just in time for Halloween. Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan as Smoke and Stack, twin brothers who want to open a juke joint in their hometown, but soon find major obstacles.

The film is a brilliant original horror story by Ryan Coogler, in which the brothers face both the local Ku Klux Klan, who have ominous plans for them, and a wandering vampire who has begun turning community members, with the ultimate goal of gentrification, by eliminating racism and making everyone the same.

The movie is also a love letter to the history of Black music, and it stands as one of the best musical films of 2025 as well as a fantastic horror story. Any horror fan who wants to catch up with the best new horror movies on streaming needs to make sure to watch Sinners, one of the best films in any genre released in 2025.
