After Lukewarm $115M Box Office, Ralph Macchio’s Martial Arts Movie Becomes A Netflix Hit

Netflix brings new success to one of 2025’s theatrical films after a mixed box office result, as Karate Kid: Legends has emerged as a global streaming hit for Netflix for the week of September 29 to October 5, 2025.

According to Tudum, Karate Kid: Legends garnered 3.9 million views, with 6.1 million hours viewed, ranking #3. KPop Demon Hunters was #1 (18.1 million), while Ruth & Boaz landed at #2 (14.1 million.)

The Karate Kid: Legends movie brought not just Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso back into the world of cinema, but also marked the union between him and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han. The Hollywood icon reprised the role from 2010’s The Karate Kid, which also starred Jaden Smith as Dre Parker.

The Sony movie, which serves as the sixth film in the franchise created by Robert Mark Kamen, finished its theatrical run by grossing $115.8 million at the worldwide box office. On Rotten Tomatoes, the installment sits with a 57% rating on the Critics’ Score, while having a better percentage with the Audience Score, at 90%.

Karate Kid: Legends also starred Ben Wang as Li Fong, with Joshua Jackson, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Tim Rozon, and Sadie Stanley in supporting roles. The 2025 entry was released only three months after the conclusion of Cobra Kai season 6 on Netflix.

Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, the movie was based on a script by Rob Lieber. The future of the beloved franchise is unclear, as no sequels have been officially announced after Karate Kid: Legends by Sony at the time of this story’s publication.

While the streaming platform has been an active home for the Karate Kid universe since acquiring Cobra Kai from YouTube Red, the franchise finally made its return to the big screen this year with Karate Kid: Legends.

The Cobra Kai co-creator, Hayden Schlossberg, revealed to ScreenRant on February 13, 2025, that they have ideas for spinoffs at Netflix that could continue the property, but nothing has been made official yet. Schlossberg stated, “All that we can say officially is that we’ve been talking about nonstop and working behind the scenes on multiple different possibilities.”

Whether or not Karate Kid: Legends’ streaming success on Netflix will actually change the prospects of a sequel becoming a reality at all remains to be seen. For now, Karate Kid: Legends may be the last film installment for the iconic martial arts franchise.
