Predicting What 2 New DC Movies James Gunn Is Adding To The DCU Slate

The new DC Universe might soon have two movies on its slate, as updates on a couple of scripts sent fans into a frenzy, and two particular heroes make sense for the projects. When the DCU’s Chapter One was first announced, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled five movies and five TV shows for the franchise.

However, the DCU’s upcoming movie slate only includes three films with firm release dates. As time has gone by, several changes have been made to the DCU release schedule, as the studio added new projects, retooled others, and put a few on pause. Now, an exciting update teases what is to come from DC, and a couple of films seem likely.

At this time, Gunn’s DCU only has three films with set release dates, all set for release in the next couple of years. The plan for the studio is currently to release two movies per year, with 2026 seeing those two projects come from the shared universe. First will be Supergirl, which flies into theaters on June 26, 2026.

2026 will see movies about a DC hero and a villain, making it quite interesting. Following Supergirl will be Clayface, with the look at the DCU’s Gotham City coming on September 11, 2026. A year later, David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor will return to team up in the Superman sequel, with Man of Tomorrow releasing on July 9, 2027.

What New DC Movies Could Be Added To The DCU Slate

Recently, James Gunn talked to GQ about what is to come for DC. During the interview, Gunn teased two new DC movies, saying,There’s actually two really cool film scripts that I’m hoping to take to the next level.” Taking the films announced when the DCU slate was first revealed, Superman has been released, while Supergirl arrives next year.

That leaves Swamp Thing, Batman’s The Brave and the Bold, and The Authority without release dates. In theory, the scripts Gunn is referring to could be from those films. However, given his many comments about how development on The Authority has stalled, that one seems unlikely. As for Swamp Thing, director James Mangold recently signed a deal with Paramount, which could keep him busy.

If Gunn is not talking about two completely unknown DC movies, the most likely predictions for those scripts are Batman’s The Brave and the Bold movie and the Wonder Woman DCU reboot film that Gunn previously confirmed. In the past, the director said the films were being written and would enter production as soon as DC was happy with them.

Gunn’s new comments match those, so I believe Batman and Wonder Woman’s movies are those he is talking about. After all, with David Corenswet’s Superman already leading a movie sequel in 2027, the new DC Universe has to fast-track the other two-thirds of DC Comics’ iconic Trinity.
