Stephen King praised the upcoming western horror Killing Faith, and it officially debuted with an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score. Stephen King is known for his iconic horror novels, including Carrie, IT, The Shining, and Misery.

Directed by Ned Crowley, Killing Faith is set in 1849 in plague-ravaged deserts in Arizona as the area is overrun with sickness and violence. A doctor must escort a former slave and her sick daughter across dangerous territory, but the locals begin to suspect a curse may be infecting the young girl.

King is known for his active social media presence and recently shared his thoughts on the movie Killing Faith on his X account. He stated that it’s “a quasi-supernatural Western that has echoes of Cormac McCarthy. The first scene, involving a child and a horse, is an authentic shocker.”

Cormac McCarthy is referenced and is another famous author known for No Country for Old Men and Blood Meridian.

Killing Faith Successfully Combines Westerns And Horror

With King’s approval, many horror fans are already anticipating a spooky and brutal movie before even setting foot into theaters. Killing Faith was released on October 3 and has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 83%.

Horror movies are having a resurgence in 2025 thanks to the release of Sinners, Weapons, and Bring Her Back. Killing Faith combines both westerns and horror, which sticks to the unusual way filmmakers are trying to make horror films stand out this year.

The town’s doctor, Bender (played by Guy Pearce), and formerly enslaved farmer Sarah (DeWanda Wise) must travel together alongside an unusual child (Emily Ford) who is believed to be cursed by the locals. With King’s statement on X, it looks like the unusual child will most likely kill the horse in the first few moments of the movie.

While few have been talking about this new horror film, it’s clearly caught the right attention – Stephen King’s seal of approval isn’t easily earned. The author recently praised the upcoming Black Phone 2, though some attribute that to his son’s involvement. Killing Faith, however, has no connection to the King family, making his endorsement all the more notable.

If you approve of supernatural-western-horror movies, then certainly Killing Faith is the movie for you, and if you’re still not certain, then Stephen King’s approval may just be the motivation needed.
