After her death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, one of the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe questions from the franchise’s audience has been whether or not Scarlet Witch is truly done in the franchise. Given the nature of comic book and superhero stories, ᴅᴇᴀᴅ doesn’t always mean ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, with the Avengers universe having shown that numerous times.
During a chat with Hamptons International Film Festival (via People) featuring Olsen, the subject of her MCU character came up, and whether Wanda could be coming back. The 36-year-old actress, who has been part of the franchise since 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, made it clear that she is more than open to revisiting the Marvel fan-favorite:
It is something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to. I think the thing that’s been so special about the last five years is I’ve gotten to do so much with the character that I never thought I would. There are still character through lines that have happened in the comics that I’d love to do that I think fans also want to.
Olsen also opened up about MCU critics, adding: “I mean, these movies aren’t for critics, these movies are for fans.” Of note, her comment comes as The Multiverse Saga has had several films with mixed reception. “It’s really fruitful, and the stories have only gotten better for me, my character. I really enjoyed it,” she added while also addressing superhero-movie fatigue.
The WandaVision star explained that “Some people have ongoing television series that they get to return to.” The Avengers alum also added: “Very few, I feel like, get to be a part of franchises that, I know we might culturally get a little bit exhausted by, but there is something about them that becomes very familial.”
She went on to stress that “There’s nothing else really like it, and [she doesn’t] know that [she’ll] have [that] again, unless it’s for an ongoing show.” Olsen elaborated: “I do like that kind of consistency. It feels good. I mean, job security feels nice—I think we can all agree on that.”
2025 did, however, bring back Olsen as Scarlet Witch, but through animation, as an alternative version appeared in the Marvel Zombies TV show, which debuted on September 24, on Disney+. With only a handful of movies and series left in Phase 6, there are still projects for Scarlet Witch to show up in before The Multiverse Saga ends.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on March 24, 2025, she was asked if she was joining the Avengers: Doomsday cast, which finished filming on September 19. However, Olsen stated, “No, I’m back [in the States]. I just finished [Panic Carefully]. I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters].”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said at CinemaCon on April 3, 2025, that the whole cast for Avengers: Doomsday has not been revealed yet, with more surprises still left to be unveiled. As the MCU gets closer to wrapping up Phase 6, it remains to be seen if Scarlet Witch will make a return on the big screen.
