35 Years Later, Audiences Can’t Get Enough Of One Of The Greatest Movie Trilogies Of All Time On Free Streaming

Audiences can’t get enough of The Godfather trilogy on free streaming. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, who co-wrote the scripts with Mario Puzo based on his 1969 novel of the same name, the three films follow the Corleone family, a fictional Italian-American mafia dynasty, focusing on their patriarch, Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando), and his youngest son Michael Corleone (Al Pacino).

The cast of The Godfather trilogy includes several stars who were nominated and won Academy Awards for their performances, including Brando, Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Robert De Niro, Michael V. Gazzo, Lee Strasberg, Talia Shire, and Andy Garcia. Other notable actors to star include Diane Keaton, Sterling Hayden, John Cazale, Dominic Chianese, Sofia Coppola, Bridget Fonda, and many more.

Now, 35 years after the third film’s release, The Godfather (1972), The Godfather: Part II (1974), and The Godfather: Part III (1990) rank second, third, and fourth on Pluto TV’s Top 10 movies in the United States for today, October 1, where they have been for a whopping 113, 99, and 64 days respectively.

The Godfather trilogy ranks below Step Brothers in first, and above Sleepy Hollow, 28 Days Later, Coming to America, An Unfinished Life, Indecent Proposal, and Good Will Hunting.

What The Godfather Trilogy’s Streaming Success Means

The Godfather trilogy dominating Pluto’s charts decades after its release provides further proof of its standing as one of the great film trilogies, ranking fourth on ScreenRant‘s list of the best movie trilogies of all time. It also appears on many publications’ lists of the greatest film trilogies, including ranking fifth on Empire magazine’s and sixth on The Independent‘s.

Interestingly, Coppola doesn’t actually consider The Godfather to be a trilogy, believing the first two films completed the Corleone saga and that Part III functions more as an epilogue, which is why it feels somewhat separate. While the first two films are widely considered two of the best movies ever made, Part III falls short of those incredibly lofty standards.

Though Part III is widely considered to be weaker than its predecessors, it was still nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, although it was unable to win like its two predecessors. Still, it’s an epilogue that’s well worth watching, and goes a long way in why The Godfather is considered one of the greatest trilogies of all time.

The Godfather is one of the rare trilogies that contains not one, but two of the greatest movies ever made. The first film explores classic themes of power, tradition, and loyalty, anchored by Brando’s unforgettable Oscar-winning performance as Don Vito Corleone and Pacino’s chilling transformation as his son, Michael.

The Godfather Part II expands the Corleone saga by juxtaposing Michael’s continuing descent into darkness with a young Vito’s rise to power, portrayed by De Niro in another quietly powerful, Oscar-winning performance. Part II continues to be a profound and tragic examination of power, legacy, family, and, most importantly, a meditation on America itself.
