Interestingly, Coppola doesn’t actually consider The Godfather to be a trilogy, believing the first two films completed the Corleone saga and that Part III functions more as an epilogue, which is why it feels somewhat separate. Though Part III is widely considered to be weaker than its predecessors, it was still nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, although it was unable to win like its two predecessors.
