Netflix’s Blockbuster Reclaims No. 1 Spot After Setting 325M Views Records

Netflix’s musical sensation KPop Demon Hunters is once again the No. 1 movie in the world and is continuing to set streaming records, despite some popular new releases hitting the streaming platform. The movie has not relinquished its spot in Netflix’s Top 10, in the U.S. or globally, since its debut on June 20, and currently has a 95% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

As the industry heads into awards season, KPop Demon Hunters is the decided frontrunner for most animated feature awards, namely Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards. While its being such a sensational phenomenon puts it ahead of any other movies, the hit song “Golden” will also be submitted for Best Original Song, competing with Wicked: For Good‘s original songs.

While Netflix and Sony are in negotiations about a KPop Demon Hunters sequel, the flagship for the budding franchise continues to top streaming charts. Netflix has reported that this past week, KPop Demon Hunters reclaimed its spot as the No. 1 movie on Netflix globally, ahead of the new release Ruth & Boaz, while hitting 325.1 million views in total.

What This Means For KPop Demon Hunters

This makes KPop Demon Hunters the first movie or TV show to reach 325 million views on Netflix. It has now reached the end of its 91-day window following its premiere, the time frame for which Netflix tracks these views, cementing its all-time record. However, the movie has also surpᴀssed the performances of many others on all streaming platforms, not just Netflix.

KPop Demon Hunters is proving to have staying power after being the hit of the summer. In all likelihood, fans will continue finding occasions to watch it long after the initial craze. The fact that Netflix has new, generally popular movies coming out, which don’t hold a candle to what KPop Demon Hunters has become, pointedly illustrates how rare such a cultural event is.

What We Think KPop Demon Hunters’ Viewership Will Be Like In The Coming Months

KPop Demon Hunters might see a dip in views as fall progresses, but at this point, the day it falls out of the Top 10 will be its own historic moment on the streamer. The movie is at No. 4 in the U.S. today (October 1) while its sing-along version is at No. 9, proving its popularity is still unwavering. I think it may surge a few more times for no reason in particular.

However, being nominated for Best Animated Feature at the beginning of 2026 will likely result in an uptick in views. And, someday, when a KPop Demon Hunters 2 is released, the first movie will blow up on streaming all over again. For now, I am wondering if KPop Demon Hunters could even pull off the truly astounding feat of staying in the Top 10 until the Oscars in March.
