The digital release date for Freakier Friday has been revealed. The movie, which was directed by Nisha Ganatra and earned a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 74%, is the fifth Freaky Friday movie, though it is the first to be a sequel featuring an original story rather than a new adaptation of Mary Rodgers’s original 1972 novel.
Freakier Friday is a direct sequel to 2003’s Freaky Friday, featuring the return of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman. This time around, they accidentally swap bodies with Anna’s daughter Harper (Julia ʙuттers) and soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons), leading to a variety of comic hijinks.
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has now officially announced that Freakier Friday will debut on Digital on October 7, hitting platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. This will be followed by a physical media release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on November 11.
It will also be released as part of a two-film bundle with 2003’s Freaky Friday. Below, see a list of bonus features that will be available as part of the Digital and Blu-ray releases:

What This Means For Freakier Friday
Unfortunately, this digital release date falls just a few days shy of October 3, which is known as “Mean Girls Day” in honor of a scene from the 2004 comedy where Lohan’s character’s crush asks her what day it was. 2025’s Freakier Friday paid homage by having Anna and her fiancé Eric (Manny Jacinto) set October 3 as their wedding date.
However, its October 7 digital debut could still serve it well. The movie is set to arrive on a Tuesday in between two weekends that see no major new comedy releases hitting theaters, allowing it to act as counterprogramming. In fact, there aren’t any notable theatrical comedies coming until Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune debuts on October 17.
While Disney is debuting the sci-fi blockbuster Tron: Ares on October 10, their at-home release of the legacy sequel is targeting an entirely different audience, so the Disney movies have the potential to thrive simultaneously.
Our Take On The Freakier Friday Digital Release Date
If it does indeed thrive, this digital release date could help Freakier Friday make up some lost ground. Although it grossed $152.3 million against its reported $45 million budget and is currently the 20th highest-grossing movie of 2025 worldwide, it couldn’t quite compete with the 2003 movie’s $160.8 million haul, which is $282.2 million when adjusted for inflation.
While the ending of Freakier Friday did not necessarily set up a sequel, it does leave the door open for one. If its digital release adds a considerable amount to its theatrical profits, it could ensure the continuation of the franchise into a third installment.
