The Russo Bros. are once again calling on movie fans to look closely at a new Avengers: Doomsday set pH๏τo; unsurprisingly, the internet is buzzing. It’s reminiscent of what they did in 2018, after Avengers: Infinity War, when they posted a black-and-white set image that fans closely examined to discover the word “Endgame,” correctly guessing the next Avengers movie would be Avengers: Endgame.
Now, more than a year ahead of the release of Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, the Russo Bros. have shared a new black-and-white set image that once again calls on fans to “look hard” for potential clues.

Some immediately recalled that the directors previously did this with Avengers: Endgame, with some excited to try and figure it out, like @JoeBoy16.

@nextmoviexpert, and others, opted to poke a little fun at the minimal set shown in the pH๏τo and how much CGI that could mean is being used in the movie.

Still, others took the task seriously and have come up with various theories on what Avengers: Doomsday secret could be teased in the pH๏τo. One of the most popular theories thus far, as guessed by @Austin_Medzz, is that the set could be teasing a battle between the Avengers and the X-Men.
Explaining Fan’s Avengers: Doomsday Set PH๏τo Theories
The Avengers vs X-Men theory seems to be the early favorite among internet sleuths. It would make sense, as we know that Avengers: Doomsday will feature many classic X-Men characters, including Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique, James Marsden’s Cyclops, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit. The two superhero teams squaring off also has precedent in Marvel, as there was a full comic book series from 2012 centered around that idea.
It’s not the only theory, however. Some believe they see the name “Wanda” in the pH๏τo, which presumably would be referring to Elizabeth Olsen’s character Wanda Maximoff, aka The Scarlet Witch. Wanda seemingly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after making a villainous turn, though the character did recently pop back up in the new animated series Marvel Zombies. Olsen did say earlier this year that she would not be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, but it would not be the first time an actor misdirected audiences to create a surprise appearance in a Marvel movie.
What We Know About Avengers: Doomsday
While we wait to get confirmation about what exactly the Russo Bros. set pH๏τo actually means, we do know that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU to be the big bad of this new Avengers movie, Doctor Doom.
Other Marvel stalwarts set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday are Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Simu Liu, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Leтιтia Wright, Tenoch Huerta, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
