Superman becomes an HBO Max success following the DC Universe film’s theatrical run this summer. The DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate is underway, as 2025 has expanded the new franchise that DC Studios is operating across the big and small screens.
Following the Superman movie ending, the Man of Steel has made a triumphant cinematic return, as his film became the highest-grossing superhero film of 2025. By grossing more than $615 at the worldwide box office, the DC Studios installment beat all of Marvel Studios’ releases this year.
In a new report from Variety, the David Corenswet-starring film has received more than 13 million global views in only 10 days since it became available on the streaming platform. Per the trade, this is the largest 10-day audience for the Warner Bros.-owned streamer since 2023’s Barbie, starring Margot Robbie.
The 2025 entry became available on the platform after being in theaters for 70 days. As Gunn’s comic book installment went to HBO Max, it has also led to other Superman-related projects to gain a spike in viewership across the world.

What Superman’s Success On HBO Max Means
Following the news that Corenswet is set to reprise the role in 2027 alongside Nicholas Hoult and Brosnahan in the Man of Tomorrow movie, it’s not a shock that the first film is doing so well for HBO Max. With Krypton’s last son being one of the leading faces of Gunn’s franchise, many want to relive Clark Kent’s theatrical adventure ahead of his return in two years.
Peacemaker season 2 is also airing right now on the platform, with several ties to the July film, as the crossover effect is benefiting the DCU, which is also likely encouraging audience members to revisit Gunn’s movie. Those who didn’t catch Superman in theaters but is a subscriber to HBO Max are also likely a huge reason for the film making history for the streaming service.
Our Take On Superman’s Success On HBO Max
From the Superman movie reviews to the film’s commercial and streaming success, the world has made it clear that they have fully embraced this take on the DC icon and are ready to see more of this universe that DC Studios is building. That is why it’s exciting that a sequel is already happening, as the audience won’t have to wait too long to see Corenswet back.
Ideally, upcoming DCU movies will have similar success both on the big screen, and when they become available on digital, streaming, and home media. After all the hard work that was put into Superman, 2025 is making it clear that it’s paying off.
