Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling mocks Emma Watson following the Hermione actor’s balanced comments about their relationship. Rowling has been at the center of controversy for years now due to her opposing stance on transgender rights, which she continues to espouse on social media.
Watson and others in the Harry Potter cast, including Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, have publicly disagreed with the author in the past. Recently, Watson addressed the issue once more while on a podcast, explaining that her disagreements with the author don’t prevent her from still appreciating their relationship.
Now, Rowling has taken to X, formerly Twitter, to share a post mocking Watson from @intel_lady, who claims across various social media profiles to satirize “silly people.” The video shows the Internet personality parodying Watson’s podcast appearance and her attempts to politely disagree with the author. Check out Rowling’s post below:

“I’m already missing @intel_lady’s Angela Rayner, but I’m here for ALL the spoofs,” Rowling writes.
What This Means For J.K. Rowling & Emma Watson
In April 2024, Rowling responded to a post that claimed Radcliffe and Watson should issue an apology for disagreeing with the author, as they could be “safe in the knowledge that [Rowling] will forgive them.” Rowling started her response with “Not safe, I’m afraid,” suggesting that she sees the rift between herself and the Harry Potter stars as permanent.

Rowling’s latest post mocking Watson certainly supports this, seemingly rejecting whatever olive branch Watson may have been extending. Watson shared her comments on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, remaining firm in her views regarding trans rights while explaining that her views don’t cancel out her positive feelings for Rowling. As she explains:
“I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo [Rowling] and the person that I had personal experiences with. I will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don’t get to keep and cherish.
To come back to our earlier thing – I just don’t think these things are either or. I think it’s my deepest wish that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with.”
Considering Rowling’s post directly parodies Watson’s podcast appearance, it seems that the Hermione actor’s feelings on the matter are not reciprocated. This does not bode well for any hope of a new Harry Potter movie project with the original cast, at least not one that Rowling is involved in.
With the Harry Potter TV show now in production, it seems that a new era for the franchise is on the horizon, with a clear break coming between the films and what’s next. Notably, most of the main actors involved in the TV show haven’t spoken up regarding trans rights, but the cast will almost certainly be fielding questions about this when promotional interviews start.
Our Take On Rowling’s Emma Watson Response
The ongoing divide regarding issues involving trans rights seems unlikely to go anywhere anytime soon, meaning those hoping for Rowling to make up with the Harry Potter cast members who disagree with her are probably out of luck. What will be interesting moving forward is seeing how the actors in the HBO Max adaptation navigate this same issue.
New Snape actor Paapa Essiedu has already publicly voiced his support for trans rights, and he’s surely not the only one involved in the Harry Potter show whose opinions differ from Rowling’s. Whether this will result in any social media spats remains to be seen, but Rowling seems poised to remain a controversial figure moving forward.
