Exciting news for Narnia and Star Wars fans alike — a major star from Disney+’s critically acclaimed series Andor is joining the cast of Greta Gerwig’s reboot of The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker has been tasked with writing and directing at least the first two movies in Netflix’s relaunch of C.S. Lewis’ classic fantasy series, with the first arriving in theaters on November 26, 2026.
Denise Gough, best known for playing ambitious Imperial officer Dedra Meero in Andor, shared on the podcast We’re Not Kidding with Mehdi & Friends that she will be in Gerwig’s forthcoming adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, apparently in a villainous role. Check out her comment below:
I’m doing a film with Greta Gerwig called Narnia. So that’s, I’m playing someone mean in that, but it’s fine, it’s to children, it’s okay.
Recent set pH๏τos revealed that the new Narnia movie has begun filming, apparently with the setting being shifted to the 1950s, rather than the books’ early 20th-century timeline. The cast is confirmed to also include Barbie‘s Emma Mackey as Jadis/The White Witch and Promising Young Woman‘s Carey Mulligan as Digory Kirke’s mother.
Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep are rumored to be a part of the movie, in the roles of Uncle Andrew and Aslan, respectively. Gerwig is shifting away from the tradition of adapting the Narnia movies by beginning with The Magician’s Nephew, chronologically the first book. This installment sees Diogry Kirke and Polly Plummer on an otherworldly adventure, witnessing Narnia’s creation along the way.
Who Denise Gough Could Be Playing In Narnia
Because Gough made such an impression in recent history by playing a cruel and logical villainous character, fans may be disappointed that the role of the White Witch is already taken, and was a part for which there was tough compeтιтion, with Charli XCX and Margaret Qualley reportedly being considered. The most likely role for Gough now would be “Aunt Letty.”
Letty is the sister of Andrew and Digory’s mother, who has taken in her sister and nephew while the former is ill. She is more aptly described as abrasive and no-nonsense than outright villainous, as Gough does suggest her character mostly comes across as “mean” to a child. Letty may also have some great scenes of facing off with the White Witch, based on the book.
However, as Gerwig alters and expands the Narnia source material, Gough could still end up in an unexpected or entirely new role.

It would be unfortunate if Gough were forever typecast as a villain from now on, but portraying a character who is seen as unkind through the eyes of a child, and conveying that feeling to an audience, while still granting them an understanding of Letty’s true nature, could be an interesting challenge for her.
Gough’s upcoming projects also include Call Me Queen and The Chain, but The Chronicles of Narnia will probably earn her the most continued visibility in the mainstream. Gough has been doing remarkable work for a long time now, even earning two Laurence Olivier Awards, and Gerwig will hopefully give her strong material to work with, even in a small role.
