Vin Diesel & Michelle Rodriguez Reunite In PH๏τo Teasing Final Fast & Furious Movie

Has filming for Fast & Furious 11 (or Fast X: Part 2) finally begun? Vin Diesel, the face of the action crime franchise, recently shared a pH๏τo that seemingly hints that filming of a continuation has begun, despite scarce and confusing updates from the past couple of years. More nerve-wracking is that Fast 11 is expected to end the franchise.

Since Fast X‘s ending left audiences clamoring for more in 2023, the follow-up was delayed due to strikes in Hollywood, with reports now suggesting that it hopes to begin filming this year for a 2027 release window. The sequel is set to show the back half of the conflict between Dom’s (Diesel) family and Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa).

Now, Diesel has shared a pH๏τo of himself and longtime Fast & Furious co-star Michelle Rodriguez via Instagram, beginning the caption with: “Just wrapped an incredible day filming with my ride-or-die about the future of Fast…” While Momoa had a disappointing Fast 11 update last week, saying he had not gotten a script, Diesel and Rodriguez are apparently filming something right now.

Diesel also previously teased that he would be working on a short film prequel to the upcoming feature Fast & Furious film, which could be what he and Rodriguez are working on now. Check out Diesel’s post below:

Diesel primarily uses the post to praise Rodriguez and emphasize the franchise’s core theme of family, saying: “After all these years, all these miles, the conversation we [Diesel and Rodriguez] had today reminded me why this family means everything […] through every corporate change, every boardroom shuffle, every new regime, one thing has never wavered… the connection between the Fast family and fans around the world!

Diesel wraps up his post by telling fans to “stay tuned.

What This Update Means For The Fast & Furious Franchise

It is contradictory that one major star wouldn’t even have a script for the next movie while two others are filming it, making it seem more likely that this is Diesel’s Fast & Furious short film project, which features Letty (Rodriguez) but not Dante. Regardless, Diesel’s post serves to continue hyping up the forthcoming, supposedly final outing.

As Diesel alludes to, Dom and Letty have been core tenants of the Fast & Furious franchise since the beginning, making this a crucial moment for the characters and the actors. It is also exciting that there may be more Fast & Furious content sooner than we expected, if Diesel and Rodriguez have covertly begun working on something.

If it hasn’t already, hopefully production on Fast 11 will begin properly very soon, in order for it to remain on schedule for a 2027 release date. But Diesel reminds fans that the cast is committed to the franchise and that their bonds behind the scenes will make the next movie special, no matter when it comes out.

Fast & Furious reminds its audiences almost too often that family is what the story is all about, but Diesel’s update offers a new take on this theme that will maybe make people appreciate it a bit more. The cast and crew have grappled with various corporate decisions throughout the franchise, but have always stuck together.

It would be very satisfying to see Fast & Furious 11 somehow call back to the original outing, a much more grounded movie in terms of action, but at its core, about family and friendship. At least, Dom and Letty will return once again to remind us of those days.
