Star Wars’ New TV Show Reveals The Coolest, Craziest New Lightsaber Design We’ve Ever Seen

Star Wars: Visions season 3 promises to introduce the coolest, craziest new lightsaber design there’s ever been. A unique anthology project, Star Wars: Visions gives some of the world’s greatest animation houses a chance to play in George Lucas’ sandbox. The stories are unconstrained by canon, meaning anything goes.

The first two seasons already proved Visions to be one of the best Star Wars TV shows, and Lucasfilm is even working on a spinoff miniseries from one story. But Star Wars: Visions season 3 is particularly exciting because it returns to the world of the Ronin, a rogue Sith who now hunts the dark side – and who’s set to go up against a unique lightsaber…

Star Wars: Visions’ New Lightsaber Is Absolutely Incredible

Star Wars Visions Season 3's New Sith Lightsaber

Lucasfilm has released a new trailer for Star Wars: Visions season 3, and it shows the Ronin going head-to-head with a Twi’lek Sith. This Sith is remarkable, because she doesn’t wield a single lightsaber blade; she has a gauntlet with no less than nine lightsabers attached to it, all triggered from the same activation switch.

Surprisingly, the concept of a lightsaber gauntlet is not new. Artist Derek Thompson created a similar design in concept art for Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, where a double-bladed gauntlet would have been used Jedi Master Plo Koon. There’s even an action figure available featuring Plo Koon’s lightsaber gauntlet.

Plo Koon’s weapon is basic compared to the one used by this Sith, though. She doesn’t just have two lightsabers on her gauntlet; she has at least nine (going from the sH๏τs in the trailer).

How Would You Use A Lightsaber Like This?

It’s fascinating to imagine how you’d use a lightsaber gauntlet like this. It would require a unique lightsaber form, because the angle of the blades would be so different. Nine blades feels like (literal) overkill, but there’d be a psychological impact on the Sith’s opponent, and the Sith can extend them to form an almost-impenetrable defensive shield.

This incredible lightsaber gauntlet would give the Sith a decided advantage against many opponents. Jedi and Sith both learn their combat forms, memorizing sequences until they are instinctive and can be carried out in accordance with the flow of the Force. The Sith’s form would be like nothing they’d ever faced before, throwing them off-balance and leaving them struggling to adapt.

Meanwhile, the sheer number of blades – and the wide area they’re approaching from – would make the slashing attacks difficult to parry with a single blade. Not only does Star Wars: Visions‘ new lightsaber look incredible, it would be a devastatingly efficient weapon to boot.
