Avatar: Fire & Ash Gets New Trailer & Reveals Game-Changer For Human & Na’vi Evolution

The upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash has gotten a new epic trailer. Following 2009’s Avatar and 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, both also directed by James Cameron, Avatar: Fire and Ash will continue the saga of Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri’s (Zoe Saldaña) family on the planet of Pandora. The new movie will hit theaters on December 19.

Fire and Ash will show even more of Pandora: as Jake and Neytiri grapple with the death of their eldest son, their longtime enemy Col. Quaritch (Stephen Lang) allies with a new Na’vi tribe, the Ash People, harshly led by Varang (Oona Chaplin). Avatar: Fire and Ash also stars Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, David Thewlis, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Bailey Bᴀss, and Jack Champion, among others.

Check out the new trailer for Avatar: Fire & Ash below:

Avatar: Fire and Ash‘s first trailer focused more on the familial conflict, as Neytiri especially is driven by grief and hatred following Avatar: The Way of Water‘s tragic ending, and Lo’ak’s (Dalton) conflict with his father continues. But the latest trailer reveals an absolute game-changer, with Spider (Champion) seemingly proving the possibility of humans physically adapting to Pandora’s environment.

What This Means For Avatar: Fire & Ash

Spider, a human boy born on Pandora and unable to make the journey back to Earth as an infant, bonded with Jake and Neytiri’s children as they were growing up, but always required an oxygen mask while outside, as the planet’s air has historically been toxic to humans. However, the new trailer shows him, for mysterious reasons, evolving in Pandora’s environment.

As Jake notes, this potentially threatens all the Na’vi people, as Pandora being inhospitable to humans is possibly the only thing keeping them from fully evacuating to the planet, when Earth is dying from pollution. Humans also have technological superiority on their side in combat, but the Na’vi being able to destroy their oxygen supply was an advantage.

Avatar: Fire and Ash intends to continue developing the bigger conflict that is ultimately about humanity abandoning its ravaged home planet to colonize a new one; the interpersonal relationships are only one component of the story. At the same time, the introduction of a Na’vi clan willing to ally with the human military makes the forthcoming battle more complex.

The reveal about Spider is a bit confusing, and potentially something that could have been kept under wraps until the actual movie’s release, but Cameron is supposedly confident in the story he has developed to explain this. Meanwhile, the rest of the trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash attempts to continue building anticipation as the war for Pandora escalates – but will the movie live up to its predecessors?
