Millie Bobby Brown was just 11 years old when she was introduced to the world as, fittingly, Eleven, in the Netflix smash hit Stranger Things. She has parlayed that iconic character into a burgeoning movie career with roles in the Godzilla franchise and the Enola Holmes movies. Now she’s entering her post-Stranger Things adult role era with a new Kerri Strug biopic for Netflix.
With Stranger Things wrapping up with the fifth and final season later this year, the 21-year-old actress seems ready to shed her adolescent side after fans have watched her grow up before their eyes. She even tied the knot last year with Jake Bongiovi, the son of Jon Bon Jovi, and her book Nineteen Steps is being adapted at Netflix.
Now that Stranger Things is about to be behind her, she’s wasting no time taking on more mature subject matter with this new project, Perfect, from The Last Showgirl director Gia Coppola.
Millie Will Bring One Of The Most Iconic Olympic Stories To The Big Screen
Perfect centers around U.S. Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, who was part of the team known as the Magnificent Seven at just 19 years of age. One of Strug’s strongest events was the Vault, though on her first attempt, she fell awkwardly and injured her ankle.
While she was clearly in pain, she powered through on her second attempt, landing perfectly on both feet, but then immediately lifting her injured ankle and hopping on one foot to salute the judges. Her score secured the team Gold for the Americans, and her coach Bela Karolyi carrying her off is one of the most iconic moments in Olympic history.
A Perfect Role For Millie With Dual Oscar Potential
Not only is Brown slated to star as Strug, but she’s also producing through her PCMA Productions company, which, in theory, could put her in line for her first two Oscar nominations simultaneously. It’s possible that she could not only be nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards, but also for Best Picture in her role as a producer.
She would join a select group of performers/producers who were nominated for starring in and producing the same film, such as George C. Scott (Patton), Marlon Brando (The Godfather Part II), Warren Beatty (Bugsy), and Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born and Maestro). The role also keeps her in business with Netflix, which could lead to more potential history.
Could An Overall Deal With Netflix Be Coming For Millie Bobby Brown?
It’s clear Netflix is doing whatever they can to stay in business with Millie Bobby Brown, and it’s possible that could ultimately culminate in an overall deal with the streaming service. While, true, many of these pricey deals are becoming less common in recent years, it could be a way to bring her deeper into the fold.
If she does land an overall deal with Netflix, she’d be one of the youngest in history to secure one, behind 14-year-old Marsai Martin, who inked a deal with Universal in 2020.
With hit shows, movies, her own novel and now her first crack at an Oscar-worthy adult leading role, the future is most certainly bright for Millie Bobby Brown, now that her Eleven chapter is coming to a close.
