Why Din Djarin's New Razor Crest Has Yellow Highlights

Din Djarin’s brand-new Razor Crest ship is back and better than ever in the first trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, sporting a yellow paint job that has audiences asking questions. Din Djarin famously lost his original Razor Crest in The Mandalorian season 2, when it was blown to pieces by Moff Gideon.

In The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer, however, he’s flying a new one, with its shinier condition standing apart as a stark contrast to that which Din previously flew in The Mandalorian‘s earlier seasons. This includes a brand-new yellow paint job, streaking across its silver hull in a familiar way that calls back to Din Djarin’s past.

All Din Djarin’s Ships Have Had Yellow Highlights

Yellow isn’t anything new to Din Djarin’s color palette, especially where his ships are concerned. The original Razor Crest was painted in the same fashion, albeit with a more worn-out yellow that could, at many times, appear more orange. That likely makes this specific paint job an ode to his initial vessel.

That’s not the only one he’s paying tribute to, though. Up until this point, after the original Razor Crest‘s destruction, Din Djarin had been piloting an N-1 starfighter, which also maintained some of its original yellow paint job in fair balance with the silver that matches Din Djarin’s own armor.

What Yellow Means In Mandalorian Lore

There isn’t a clear reason yet why yellow might mean so much to Din Djarin, as other colors, such as red, seem to have a closer tie to his past, but Star Wars Legends does have a meaning attached to the color yellow in Mandalorian lore. It’s the color of remembrance.

For someone like Din Djarin, this isn’t a surprise. His original suit of armor was, as aforementioned, red, which could be directly tied to mourning a lost parent – or in his case, both parents. That same shade of red also matches that which Din wore as a child on his homeworld of Aq Vetina.

Clearly, Din Djarin is much more sentimental than people often give him credit for. This could likely be the reason why he also manages to find another Amban phase-pulse blaster rifle, as teased in The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s trailer. This yellow paint job on the Razor Crest is thus a touching way of Din remembering his first trusty vessel.
