Netflix Hit Movie Continues To Make Streaming History Despite Losing No. 1 Spot

Netflix’s biggest blockbuster is no longer the No.1 on the streaming chart. In July, KPop Demon Hunters took the world by storm when the movie arrived on the streamer’s platform. Having spent 14 weeks on the Top 10 global charts, the movie has remained at the top spots since its release. However, another movie has overtaken its No.1 spot.

During its second week on Netflix, The Wrong Paris closely surpᴀssed KPop Demon Hunters as the No.1 most popular movie on the streamer’s global chart during the week of September 15 to 21. Having garnered 21.8 million views, the romantic comedy only had 0.6 million more views than the animated K-Pop movie.

Even though some weeks saw newly released movies taking the top spot, KPop Demon Hunters remains undefeated in its global success. The movie is currently the most popular movie of all time on Netflix with a total of 325 million views during the first 91 days of its release.

What This Means For KPop Demon Hunters And The Wrong Paris

At the time of writing, The Wrong Paris is the No.1 movie in 53 countries and among the Top 10 most movies in 91 countries. Meanwhile, KPop Demon Hunters remains the chart-topper in eight countries and among the Top 10 in 93 countries. From the perspective of both total weekly views and global impact, the two films come close.

This isn’t the first time that a newly released movie has taken over the top space, but KPop Demon Hunters has managed to outperform in the long run. During the week of September 1 to 7, Unknown Number: The High School Catfish overtook the hit K-pop movie as the most-viewed on Netflix’s global chart. The following week saw the animated film re-emerge as the No.1 most popular.

On the all-time chart, KPop Demon Hunters is followed by Ryan Reynolds and the Rock’s Red Notice (230.9 million views) in second place and Carry-On (170 million views) in third place.

Our Take On The Wrong Paris’ Streaming Success

The Wrong Paris has a 64% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 60% score from fans, which means the movie that follows a young woman’s journey joining a dating show in Paris, Texas, is generally well-received, but it’s no match to KPop Demon Hunters‘ 95% critics score and 99% audience score.

On the other hand, The Wrong Paris‘s viewership nearly doubled in the second week, which is very interesting to see for a new movie. There’s a chance that Netflix’s biggest blockbuster might not get its first place back any time soon.
