Spider-Man: Brand New Day Casts Spider-Verse Actor, Reprising Villain Role In MCU

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now cast a major Marvel villain. While he has been missing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline since 2021, Tom Holland is getting ready to finally reprise the role of Peter Parker in Phase 6, as The Multiverse Saga nears its end.

While Holland recently suffered an injury, the British star is expected to resume filming in a couple of days, following the report on Sunday, September 21. As principal pH๏τography has been underway for a while now, new details are finally emerging about the highly anticipated superhero entry.

ᴅᴇᴀᴅline reports that Marvin Jones III has been cast in Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day as Lonnie Lincoln, a.k.a. Tombstone. While Sony and Marvel have yet to comment on the casting, the actor previously voiced the villain in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, with the MCU film marking his live-action debut.

Jones is also no stranger to playing comic book villains, as he portrayed DC Comics’ Tobias Whale in The CW’s Black Lightning TV show, which became part of the Arrowverse in season 3. The star joins several new MCU cast members of this installment, including Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman.

What Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Tombstone Casting Means

With his addition to the Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast, it’s evident that the film is looking to expand on Spider-Man’s mythology with villains who are not as big as Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus. Whether Tombstone will be the central antagonist has not been determined, since Michael Mando is also returning as Mac Gargan, better known as Scorpion.

It’s very notable, however, that they are bringing back the same actor who voiced Lincoln in the animated Spider-Verse franchise for his live-action incarnation. It doesn’t mean that this serves as a crossover between the MCU and the Spider-Verse, but more so, that Jones is simply playing his own variant.

Our Take On Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Tombstone Casting

While more details will hopefully emerge sooner rather than later about his part in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day story, Jones’s Tombstone casting is incredibly exciting. Not only does it give the web-slinger a new foe to deal with in live-action, but the film has landed itself a tremendous actor, as Jones was one of the breakout stars from Black Lightning.

It wouldn’t be shocking if there are other villains from Peter’s comics history who end up being part of this film, especially those who haven’t been used in previous film adaptations. But hopefully, it won’t be long until the world gets a first look at Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
