The Mandalorian And Grogu: Everything We Know About The Next Star Wars Movie

The clock is winding down until Star Wars’ next movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, hits theaters. The franchise’s first movie since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian and Grogu will bring the story of Din Djarin and Grogu, the heroes of the mega-hit TV series The Mandalorian, to the big screen.

Under the direction of The Mandalorian creator and showrunner Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian and Grogu marks the first time Star Wars is bringing a TV show to life on the big screen. From its star-studded cast to the adventurous story at its heart, here’s everything you need to know about The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The Mandalorian And Grogu’s Trailer

Lucasfilm has released the first official trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, heavy on meme-able moments but light on plot.

As glimpsed in the trailer, this movie is setting out to bring back what first made The Mandalorian TV show such a big hit. With big spectacles and thrilling adventures, Din Djarin and Grogu are back in action and better than ever at each other’s sides.

The official description for the movie, as shared by Star Wars, reads as follows:

The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu (as himself).

This fits with where The Mandalorian season 3 ends, when Din Djarin approaches New Republic ranger Captain Carson Teva with the request to work under-the-table for the New Republic as a contracted bounty hunter. Now based in a homestead on Nevarro, Din Djarin and Grogu will pursue the Imperial Remnant on the New Republic’s behalf.

Along the way, Din Djarin and Grogu will encounter both new and familiar faces, from Star Wars Rebels’ Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios within the New Republic’s ranks to the gladiator-fighting son of Jabba the Hutt himself, Rotta the Hutt. Little else is still known about the story apart from this, as Star Wars continues to shroud it in mystery.

The Mandalorian And Grogu’s Release Date: Springing Into Action May 22, 2026

Star Wars is attempting a springtime release window for the first time since 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, as The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters May 22, 2026. This follows the classic Star Wars movie release pattern first established by George Lucas’ six Star Wars films.

This also means that The Mandalorian and Grogu will arrive just over three years after the conclusion of The Mandalorian season 3, which was the last time we saw these characters. It’s certainly long overdue, and their return has long since been highly anticipated.

Although The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s release is now imminent, there’s still little we know about much of its cast. What we do know, however, is that the Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal, is returning as Din Djarin, the hero of our story. He will be joined by what is currently a small cast of both familiar and new faces.

With story details still remaining limited at this time, there hasn’t been much that The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s cast and crew have been able to reveal, but they have still provided some hints.

Star Pedro Pascal told Screen Rant at Star Wars Celebration Japan earlier this year that The Mandalorian and Grogu is “one of the greatest adventure movies that has ever been made.” There isn’t much else he’s been willing to reveal, instead uplifting his fellow Din Djarin actors, Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder, time and time again.

Sigourney Weaver has teased that The Mandalorian and Grogu may not be limited to the whimsical adventuring that viewers are expecting. Speaking to Collider, Weaver seemed to insist that it was more than just a fun time at the movies, instead hinting that “Well, let’s see, shall we? I’m sure it will be at least that.

The Mandalorian And Grogu Predictions: Our Take On Star Wars’ Next Movie

With the mystery surrounding The Mandalorian and Grogu writ large, there are lots of gaps to fill in, though several context clues, in addition to previous storylines, can point towards some possibilities for what’s to come. For example, it can be safely predicted that our greatest villain is an as-yet unidentified Imperial Remnant figure.

As for the Hutts, Rotta isn’t the only one who seems to be returning to the galaxy in this movie. The official poster for The Mandalorian and Grogu also includes two Hutts who seem to closely resemble the Hutt twins who appeared in The Book of Boba Fett TV show, although this has yet to be confirmed.

Considering all of this, as well as Din Djarin’s typical work as a bounty hunter in previous seasons of The Mandalorian, it’s likely that he and Grogu will piece together some kind of greater conspiracy at work that the Imperial Remnant has in play. The Mandalorian and Grogu has yet to prove that; until that point, the anticipation grows.
