The trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu just dropped today, and it proves that we’ve been totally lied to about the real story in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The first trailer for this upcoming Star Wars movie has been expected for quite some time, and now that it’s here, we know so much more about what this story will entail.
This includes the return of iconic Star Wars concepts, from stormtroopers to AT-AT walkers. Shockingly, though, The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s trailer confirms that Star Wars completely duped us when it comes to the movie’s plot. That is, in Disney’s official synopsis of The Mandalorian and Grogu, it states:
“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.”
This synopsis set up a post-Imperial galaxy, wherein the lingering Imperial warlords posed little threat. Based on this new trailer, that couldn’t be further from the case. It seems that the Empire has not truly fallen at all but is instead building anew in the shadows.
The Empire Hasn’t Really Fallen At All
Star Wars has been building toward a major reveal of just how widespread, concentrated, and powerful the Imperial Remnant really was, even at this point in the Star Wars timeline. The Mandalorian season 3 already confirmed that the Imperial warlords were actually far from ‘scattered,’ as The Mandalorian and Grogu’s synopsis had indicated.
Instead, these warlords were coordinating as an Imperial Shadow Council. The clips from this new trailer suggest that The Mandalorian and Grogu will continue to focus on this growing threat, particularly with clips like Din Djarin and Grogu observing a group of stormtroopers. This arc makes sense, given what we saw in Ahsoka as well.
What this means is that the Empire is alive and growing in The Mandalorian and Grogu. This sets up a thrilling plot (arguably even more exciting than the one we thought we were getting), wherein Din Djarin and Grogu must confront the attempted return of the Empire itself.
Din Djarin Is About To Uncover An Imperial Conspiracy
The exact story details of The Mandalorian and Grogu are still largely unknown, even with the new insight the trailer has provided. Nevertheless, what we have seen so far heavily hints that Din Djarin will be working with the New Republic to uncover an Imperial conspiracy. What this could mean for Star Wars’ future more broadly is particularly exciting.
With less than a year until The Mandalorian and Grogu’s May 22, 2026, release date, these fascinating questions will only go unanswered for so long. For now, though, this brand-new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu reveals that Star Wars has indeed been lying to us, opening up countless story possibilities for this new movie.
