DC Studios co-CEO and Man of Tomorrow writer James Gunn has officially confirmed an “important” update for the Superman successor is only two weeks away. As the first film released for the DCU timeline, Superman is a naturally crucial movie – making the films that follow it up all the more important too.
While the next upcoming DC movie in the DCU release roster is Supergirl, Superman‘s next story has also been confirmed, thanks to the announcement of Man of Tomorrow. More recent news has revealed one important update is on the way regarding Man of Tomorrow, paving the way for the film’s 2027 release.
Man Of Tomorrow Is Set To Get An Important Story Setup On October 9
Following the release of Superman and its success in setting up the DCU, it was revealed that the next major movie Superman is set to play a main role in is that of Man of Tomorrow, a film that will see current rivals Superman and Lex Luthor team up to face against a common enemy – a fascinating concept given Superman‘s ending shows Luthor truly despises Kal-El on many levels.
Having previously described Peacemaker as a prequel to Man of Tomorrow, James Gunn delved a little more into the show’s previously teased ties to the 2027 film on The Ringer-Verse, stating:
“I wanna make sure that people can pick up and watch something without having to see something before it… So, that said, episode 8 is as important to Man of Tomorrow as anything.“
The idea that the final episode of season 2 is specifically big in terms of setting up Man of Tomorrow is certainly noteworthy. While there are still two episodes left before we even get to the Peacemaker season 2 ending, there are a few ways it seems the finale could be big for the DCU movie.
What Peacemaker Episode 8’s Man Of Tomorrow Setup Could Be
One of the biggest theories about Peacemaker season 2’s story is that Lex Luthor is either already involved in or otherwise set to be involved in its proceedings. Either avenue would mean that Peacemaker season 2, episode 8 would be important in the sense it could directly show Hoult’s Luthor, and further his story prior to Man of Tomorrow.
Since the story of season 2 revolves around dimensional travel – and we know Luthor is an expert – his appearance in Peacemaker would be logical. Similar theories that Justice Gang member Mister Terrific could end up appearing to deal with the multiversal portals would also be par for the course, and could connect in a similar way to Man of Tomorrow.
Other than these Man of Tomorrow theories, the fact the Quantum Unfolding Chamber initially belonged to an alien and is used by aliens could go several ways – either setting up Brainiac, or otherwise Zod, if he’s able to use the portal between worlds to escape his usual backstory of being trapped in the Phantom Zone.
