The new Batman movie’s post-credits scene gets explained after the tease of a future DC villain threat. As the world of the Dark Knight has been re-imagined numerous times in live-action, including The Batman universe, and through animation, the iconic DC hero has come to life through a new creative lens.

Centered as a fresh interpretation of the Caped Crusader, Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires explores the beloved DC icon through Aztec culture. While not focused on Bruce Wayne or the world of Gotham City, the movie follows Yohualli Coatl as the crime-fighting protector while also featuring different versions of some iconic Batman characters.

ScreenRant’s own Owen Danoff recently interviewed the animated film’s composer, Ego Plum, about the 2025 entry, while also getting a bit deeper into the post-credits scene. While asking about the musical choices, Plum also elaborated on whether there is a sequel coming up for the Elseworlds-based story by stating the following:

ScreenRant: This will be a spoiler one, but I really enjoyed the post-credits. You had a little organ music and we get the Penguin in there. Two-part question, but why the organ and does this mean we’re getting another one of these?

Ego Plum: That’s a good question. It’ll give away a little bit, but there’s a religious sort of quality to this character. Perhaps he’s like a priest. With having an ᴀssociation of the church, with the grand organs, of course that comes later in history, but there’s this nice religious quality to organ playing and organ melodies that I thought would be appropriate, even though it is a bit anachronistic as far as time. I thought it would be interesting.

But I think we shouldn’t talk about that too much because that is what would happen next. And the truth is, we don’t know yet if we’re going to get another film. We’re all very hopeful. And I mean, if it was up to me, this could be a series of films that just goes on forever, because I know the director has tons of ideas and other potential characters and has talked about a bunch of really cool ideas. But for now, we have this one and we’re all just very grateful.

What Ego Plum’s Batman Post-Credits Scene Comments Mean

While the animated adventure leaves the door open for future stories, it’s key to take into account that this project was first put into development back in 2022, as it took three years for the Batman movie to be released. At this point, it will depend heavily on how it does through streaming, digital sales, and its upcoming home media release.

Since it was produced before the launch of DC Studios with James Gunn and Peter Safran, things are now significantly different in what movies or TV shows based on the popular comic book publisher go forward. However, a huge advantage for this iteration is that there is still room for Elseworlds stories.

If the Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires reviews lead to a positive reception, that may also increase the chances for a sequel to go forward. But from Plum’s response, nothing is set in stone right now for a continuation, and it may not be determined until later in the year or in 2026.

Given how the story concludes, it would be great to see the creative team get a chance to continue, especially with what the post-credits scene offers. In a climate where there is both Robert Pattinson’s franchise, the Caped Crusader animated series, as well as Gunn’s version in the DC Universe, this is another solid addition to the Elseworlds concept.

But if the first installment performs well and resonates with audience members, it’s hard to imagine a sequel not getting greenlit. But until then, the world can explore this unique take on one of DC’s most beloved superheroes in Aztec Batman: Clash of the Empires.
