Ana De Armas’ Negative Wonder Woman Comments Are No Longer A Problem For Her DCU Casting

Ana de Armas would be an exciting choice to play Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe, and the casting could work now that a major change impacts her previous Diana Prince comments. The DCU’s Chapter One did not originally have a Wonder Woman movie announced for it. Thankfully, that has since changed, with a new Wonder Woman movie in development.

That said, the project is not nearly ready for the casting stage yet, as Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira is working on the script. James Gunn has said that once the screenplay is finished, DC will immediately move forward with production. When that happens, popular DCU Wonder Woman fancasts like Alexandra Daddario, Adria Arjona, and Ana de Armas could have a sH๏τ at the role.

So far, no details have come out regarding the DCU Wonder Woman movie. However, many of the actresses who have become favorites for the role among fans have already commented on how they would like to play Diana Prince. However, de Armas was not one of them, with her Wonder Woman comments surprising, but a DCU update makes her casting possible.

Ana De Armas Did Not Think Wonder Woman Should Be Recast

While she might not have talked about the role recently, Ana de Armas addressed playing Wonder Woman in 2023 during the Wired Auto Complete Interview. At the time, James Gunn’s DCU had yet to make it clear that Gal Gadot would not be coming back as Diana Prince. Due to that, de Armas did not seem open to playing the DC character.

During the interview, the actress claimed that the role was already taken, saying, Well, I feel like Gal Gadot is doing a great job. I think she should keep doing that.” While that made sense at the time, Gadot is not coming back for the DCU, with Wonder Woman 3 cancelled and the role set to be recast for the DCU Wonder Woman movie.

The DCU Wonder Woman Movie Is The Perfect Project For Ana De Armas’ DC Debut

Given that Ana de Armas was not open to playing Wonder Woman because she did not feel the need to take over the role from Gadot, the fact that the DCEU actress is now firmly out of DC’s plans means de Armas’ stance on the character could change. Besides, the DCU is a completely different universe from the old DCEU.

As such, de Armas would not be playing a version of Gadot’s Wonder Woman, but her own. With key roles in action movies like the James Bond film No Time to Die and her lead turn in the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, Ana de Armas would make Wonder Woman a charismatic warrior. At 37, she could play Wonder Woman for the next decade.
