Jesse Eisenberg has seriously hyped up the surprises found within Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, so the question remains: who will appear in the threequel? Set for release in November, the Ruben Fleischer-directed movie will bring back the four original Horsemen – Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Woody Harrelson – for a brand-new heist.
As per usual with this franchise, there will surely be more than a few twists along the way, but at its core, Now You See Me 3 will follow the Horsemen as they team up with three young illusionists to pull off a daring new venture. Eisenberg has already begun teasing the surprises ahead, revealing recently that there’s “a genuinely brilliant, incredibly effective twist in the movie.”
On the topic of Now You See Me 3‘s cameos, the actor added that they “are just as much fun as they are surprising.” Naturally, this raises a lot of questions about who might be popping up in the Horsemen’s latest adventure. Currently, it seems like there are two options for what these cameos could be.
Now You See Me 3 Might Feature Cameos From Past Franchise Stars
Though Now You See Me: Now You Don’t features the long-awaited return of Fisher’s Henley, there are a few missing cast members whose absences have raised some eyebrows. Lizzy Caplan is perhaps the biggest; she was brought on to replace Fisher in the second film, and it isn’t yet clear where her character, Lula, has gone.
Additionally, Daniel Radcliffe, the villain of the second movie, is listed for the film on IMDb, but it’s worth noting that he is not included on Lionsgate’s official cast list. The same is true for Mark Ruffalo, one of the key stars of the first two movies, though there’s been more reporting about him returning.
It could be that Radcliffe and Ruffalo will both appear in Now You See Me 3, but their exact roles are part of a larger twist that Lionsgate wants to be preserved until release. Simply bringing back familiar characters wouldn’t be very shocking, which could be why Eisenberg took care to promise they “are not boring appearances.”
Michael Caine is another key franchise figure not yet confirmed to return, but that is less surprising considering the actor’s retirement. However, it was recently revealed that he would be returning to acting for The Last Witch Hunter 2 with Vin Diesel, so now a cameo from him isn’t out of the question.
Beyond them, there’s Caplan, Jay Chou, Sanaa Lathan, and Mélanie Laurent in the category of former Now You See Me stars not yet on board for the third film. Admittedly, some of these characters would be more exciting to see than others, but all could make surprise appearances to further enrich this trippy world. However, Eisenberg’s comments have me thinking the cameos will be of a different sort.
Could Now You See Me 3 Introduce A New All-Star Horsemen Lineup?
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t already appears to be setting up the next generation of Horsemen with the new characters played by Dominic Sessa, Justice Smith, and Ariana Greenblatt. They’ll be actively learning from the original thieves, and it would make sense for them to then lead their own team going forward, especially since Now You See Me 4 has already been confirmed.
However, this franchise has a history of revealing surprise idenтιтies and organizations working in the shadows, such as the mysterious Eye. The Horsemen were properly introduced to the Eye at the end of Now You See Me 2, and the third film could introduce other thieves and illusionists working within that group. This is where it could get truly wild with its cameos.
The sky is essentially the limit here, as anyone could pop up as a brand-new character. In the past, Now You See Me has never really been a franchise that seeks to surprise audiences with shock cameos that set up additional projects, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, with the franchise already looking toward the future, it could start this practice.
Little is known about Now You See Me 4 beyond Fleischer returning to direct, but Eisenberg’s tease about the dramatic twist ending, coupled with the promise of cameos, heavily suggests whatever happens in Now You Don’t will directly feed into the fourth film. This could be through a new team of Horsemen, comprised of Sessa, Smith, Greenblatt, and the mystery figures.
There are a number of actors who would be excellent additions to the franchise, from Tom Cruise to Ana de Armas, and Lionsgate seems to have big ambitions for the future, ᴀssuming Now You See Me 3 is a hit. The in-development fourth film might only be the start.
A new trailer for Now You See Me: Now You Don’t should be released soon, and that could provide even more clues about what’s ahead. The cameos certainly won’t be revealed, but that just means there’s plenty of intrigue left for us to enjoy. For now, though, all we know is that it will be chock-full of huge surprises that hopefully won’t disappoint.
