The first trailer for Anaconda has arrived. The remake, which was directed by The Unbearable Weight of Mᴀssive Talent‘s Tom Gormican, reimagines the 1997 cult classic creature feature of the same name and is the sixth installment in the overall franchise that it spawned, which includes three sequels and the killer crocodile crossover Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
The upcoming Anaconda remake adds a meta comedy element to the original movie by following friends Griff (Paul Rudd) and Doug (Jack Black), who love the 1997 movie and decide to mount a remake, even though they are woefully unprepared amateurs. Things get even worse for them when a real killer snake crashes the set of their movie.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has now unveiled the official trailer for Anaconda. The trailer opens with Doug arriving on Griff’s doorstep in the grip of a midlife crisis and floating the idea of mounting a remake of their beloved creature feature, promising “the adventure of a lifetime.”
Along with their friends Claire (Thandiwe Newton) and Kenny (Steve Zahn), they bumble through getting together a budget, a script, and a live snake. However, when their snake is accidentally killed, they venture into the jungle to find a new snake, only to encounter a real-life giant killer anaconda.
What ensues is a variety of shenanigans with life-or-death stakes, including an extended sequence where the group, thinking Doug is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, try to use him as bait, only to realize that he’s still alive and thus in grave danger. The trailer also makes frequent use of the “my anaconda don’t…” line from Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.”

What This Means For Anaconda
The trailer for the new Anaconda movie offers a great deal of insight into the unusual remake. While none of the previous installments in the franchise were overtly comedic, it looks like the new version will first and foremost be a comedy.
Although it does feature intense action-adventure elements that are reminiscent of 1997’s Anaconda, the extended “putting the movie together” sequence in the trailer for the Paul Rudd movie gives the impression that the movie may take quite some time to get to the тιтular creature. This balance of elements belies its intentions of provoking laughs more often than high-octane thrills.
Our Take On The Anaconda Trailer
It remains to be seen if audiences accept how different the tone of 2025’s Anaconda is from the original movie. However, by taking a completely different tack from the 1997 Jennifer Lopez vehicle and taking place in a universe where that movie exists, it could honor the original while providing a breath of fresh air that a straightforward remake couldn’t.
