Sadie Sink takes Zendaya’s role as the main love interest of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in a new Spider-Man: Brand New Day concept trailer. Missing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the MCU Spider-Man franchise’s latest movie, 2021’s No Way Home, Holland’s Peter Parker will finally return to the big screen in 2026. So far, Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s story is a secret.
However, it has already been revealed that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk will appear in the upcoming Spider-Man movie. Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s cast also reportedly includes Zendaya’s MJ, Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds, Michael Mando’s Scorpion, and Sadie Sink in a mysterious role. Multiple characters have been suggested for the Stranger Things star, who could be playing a major love interest.
On YouTube, Screen Culture shared a Spider-Man: Brand New Day concept trailer that imagines Sadie Sink as the MCU’s Mary Jane Watson.
The fan trailer replaces Zendaya’s MJ, whose real name is Michelle Jones, with Sink as Mary Jane in Peter Parker’s life after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The footage shows Mister Negative as the Spider-Man movie villain, with Hailee Steinfeld returning as Kate Bishop, the MCU’s new Hawkeye, to help Peter.
What The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Concept Trailer Means
Given that the Spider-Man: Brand New Day concept trailer is fan-made, it has no real impact on the plot of the MCU movie. However, the Marvel teaser shows how the franchise could include key characters in the next Spider-Man movie and make it work with what has been revealed so far. For instance, Mister Negative is perfect for a street-level movie.
The Punisher could be trying to take Martin Li and his gang down, while Mister Negative’s powers could unlock the Savage Hulk after years of Smart Hulk in the MCU. As for Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, the hero operates out of New York City. Since Kate fought Kingpin, the new Hawkeye helping Spider-Man stop a rising crime boss would make sense.
When it comes to Sadie Sink playing Mary Jane Watson in the MCU, that is where the MCU’s biggest move would be. Zendaya’s MJ uses Mary Jane’s iconic nickname from the comics, but given that her real name is Michelle Jones, the MCU could theoretically make Sink Mary Jane without any multiverse explanation needed. Sink already looks pitch-perfect for Mary Jane.
Our Take On The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Concept Trailer
Given the number of heroes in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it is entirely possible that Kate Bishop could be another one to show up. After all, her past with street-level crime would make her an even better addition to the Spider-Man movie than Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. With Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova rumored to appear in the film, Kate’s chances rise, as the two have history.
As for Mister Negative, no villain other than Scorpion has been confirmed for the film. That said, Mac Gargan does not feel like main villain material, so Martin Li has a sH๏τ. Sadie Sink playing Mary Jane Watson would be perfect casting, but due to how the MCU had Zendaya’s Michelle occupy that role, I don’t think it will happen.
