New images offer a closer look at 2025’s Anaconda. The movie, which is set to debut on Christmas Day, was directed by Tom Gormican (who co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Etten). Just like Gormican and Etten’s previous feature The Unbearable Weight of Mᴀssive Talent, which starred Nicolas Cage as himself, it will have a unique meta approach.
In addition to remaking the 1997 creature feature of the same name, the upcoming Anaconda will add comic elements as it follows friends Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) attempting to mount a remake of the original movie, only to encounter a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly anaconda on location. The cast also includes Daniela Melchior, Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, and Ione Skye.
People has now unveiled a gallery of first-look images from the Anaconda remake. These include a sH๏τ of Griff and his friends Claire (Newton) and Kenny (Zahn) in need of rescue while in a grᴀssy field. Another image shows Doug panicking while a wild boar rides on his shoulders.
The final image shows a bedraggled Doug and Griff peering nervously out of the back window of a car. See the full-size images below:
What This Means For Anaconda
These images only offer glimpses into a few scenes from the upcoming remake, which is the sixth Anaconda movie overall, including the original movie’s three sequels and the 2015 crossover Lake Placid vs. Anaconda. However, the stills do offer some important insight into the movie’s tone.
2025’s Anaconda will be the first installment to be released in theaters since the first sequel, 2004’s Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid.
The solo image of Jack Black and the wild boar showcases the comic tone of the movie, because the situation seems more intentionally goofy than genuinely dramatic and terrifying. However, it seems highly likely that there will still be realistic stakes in the movie.
While Anaconda takes a comedic meta approach to the material, the two other images suggest that the characters will be in real danger and there may be scenes that mimic the intensity of the original action-adventure movie. Whether or not these moments will swiftly be undercut by comic relief remains to be seen.
Our Take On The Anaconda Images
These images make it seem possible that Anaconda will follow in the footsteps of other recent Paul Rudd movies such as Ant-Man and the Wasp and Ghostbusters: Afterlife by taking an approach that combines humor with compelling genre elements in equal measure.
Should that be the case, Anaconda will be well-served by its leads, as both Rudd and Black have long since proven their range by starring in a variety of comedies and dramas over the course of their respective careers.
