It’s The End Of An Era For Batman Movies After A Major DC Universe Update

Batman will be a big part of the new DC Universe, and a villain spinoff movie shows how the franchise is already making a splash on DC’s live-action Batman legacy. Robert Pattinson leads The Batman franchise, which is not canon to the DCU as of now, with a new actor waiting to be cast for The Brave and the Bold.

However, those will not be the only franchises to feature Gotham City and Dark Knight characters going forward. The projects in James Gunn’s DCU should help the new franchise create an exciting take on Gotham, and to do so, an R-rated movie focused on a Batman villain is releasing next year. Now, a major Batman twist has been confirmed for the film.

DC’s R-Rated Batman Villain Movie Teases The DCU’s Original Robin

For now, there is no confirmation that Batman himself will appear in DC Studios’ Clayface movie. The project is currently filming, with many set pH๏τos and videos showing the first look at Clayface in human form and teasing many Batman villains for the DCU. While characters like the Joker and more villains have been teased, so has a major hero.

On X, @DCUPRIMETV (via @Chimichangaprod) shared the first DCU look at Robin. No, the set pH๏τo does not feature an actor as Robin on the set of Clayface, but it confirms that a version of the character exists in the DCU. The set pH๏τo features a poster for The Flying Graysons, revealing Dick Grayson, Batman’s first Robin, is in the DCU.

With Dick Grayson now teased to be part of James Gunn’s DCU, it seems like the live-action franchise is finally breaking a negative Batman movie trend that has lasted 28 years. That is due to how 1997’s Batman & Robin was the last time that a live-action Batman movie featured Robin. The film’s negative performance made things difficult for the character.

However, Gunn’s DCU could now end that in a major way. Batman had a cameo in the animated Creature Commandos series, which revealed he had been active in the franchise for years. In that same show, Clayface was already his monstrous form, fighting Rick Flag Sr. and Frankenstein. Telling the villain’s DCU origin, Clayface is apparently a prequel movie.

As such, the fact that there is a poster for The Flying Graysons in Clayface could mean that Dick’s parents have already died, and he is Nightwing in the DCU’s present. That would connect to the confirmation that Damian Wayne is central to The Brave and the Bold. Other Robins, like Jason Todd and Tim Drake, are also likely then for the DCU Batman corner.
