We’re Officially 2 Months Away From The Last Stephen King Movie Of The Year

2025 has been a busy year for Stephen King in Hollywood. The industry has always favored adapting his writing in new ways, and there’s a brand new reminder of that with The Long Walk in theaters right now.

The Long Walk is the third movie based on one of King’s books to come out this calendar year. The Monkey brought the author’s short story to life with lots of comedic violence in February. Audiences were even treated to The Life of Chuck coming out in June, almost a year after it debuted to rave reviews at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

All three of King’s movies this year have been well-received by critics, even if the audience’s appeтιтe for them has varied. And while The Long Walk is fresh in people’s minds, it will not be the last adaptation from the author’s works that the public can see this year. The next is right around the corner.

Stephen King’s Next Movie Will Be Released Soon

If three King movies weren’t enough for you in 2025, get ready for number four. That’s because The Running Man is hitting theaters on November 14 courtesy of Paramount Pictures.

Based on the 1982 novel of the same name that King wrote under his pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Running Man is directed by Edgar Wright, the brilliant mind behind films like Baby Driver, H๏τ Fuzz, and Shaun of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.

Glen Powell headlines the project as Ben Richards, a man competing in a reality TV show where he’s hunted by others for 30 days to win $1 billion. Powell takes on the role 38 years after Arnold Schwarzenegger played the role in the original The Running Man movie adaptation.

With the movie coming out in theaters on November 14 after a few small release date maneuvers, that leaves us with just two months until The Running Man‘s release as of now. There are plenty of reasons to be excited for the film, whether you’re a longtime King fan or not.

Stephen King’s Last Movie Of 2025 Could Be The Best Of Them All

As mentioned, Stephen King’s 2025 movies have been pretty impressive, giving him one of the best stretches of his career for adaptations. The Monkey has a 77% Rotten Tomatoes score, and The Life of Chuck‘s 81% score is one of his highest in years. The Long Walk has blown past that now with a 91% RT score.

That’s a high bar to live up to for The Running Man, but there’s a chance this one winds up being the best adaptation of the author’s works this year – and maybe even one of the strongest ever.

Confidence in this film largely comes from Wright’s involvement. He’s a director who rarely (if ever) misses. I’ve personally enjoyed all the movies he’s directed, and there’s no real reason to believe he’ll suddenly forget how to make a great movie now.

The trailers for The Running Man have been wildly entertaining too. This is more of an action thriller geared towards entertaining audiences, and Powell looks expertly cast. It helps that Colman Domingo, Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, Katy O’Brien, and others appear to be having a blast in their roles.

If Wright’s action comedy background, King’s source material, Powell’s star charisma, and more all work together as well as they do on paper, The Running Man should be a great time in theaters later this year at the very least. These next two months will hopefully fly by then.
