It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years now since Star Wars finally grew beyond anything George Lucas imagined. Whatever his critics (and Harrison Ford) may think of George Lucas’ writing, the creator of Star Wars undeniably has an incredible imagination. He created the Star Wars galaxy, a sandbox so many have played in since.
Two years ago, though, it finally happened. At long last, Star Wars dared to boldly go where even George Lucas had not gone before. We don’t yet know what the consequences of this will be, but we’re sure to find out a little more next year, in Ahsoka season 2. For now, though, the possibilities are truly galactic in scale…
Ahsoka Has Introduced A Brand New Galaxy
Ahsoka season 1 saw heroes and villains alike discover the pathway to Peridea, a distant planet situated in another galaxy. The distances involved are so vast that travel was only possible using advanced technology or by hitching a ride on the hyperspace-traveling purrgils, and the journey meant Star Wars had finally left Lucas’ galaxy behind.
To be fair, Lucas had dropped hints of extragalactic forces before himself. Star Wars: The Clone Wars introduced the mysterious Mortis Gods, cosmic beings who openly spoke about “your” galaxy – the clear implication being that they originated from elsewhere. Appropriately, the end of Ahsoka linked Peridea itself to the Mortis Gods, showing statues in their honor.
But he’d never gone beyond the galaxy’s confines, of course. He’d never sent characters across the void between the galaxies, uncovering the mysteries that lay there; sectors of cosmos not shaped by Jedi and Sith, but by something else. The possibilities are endless.
Ahsoka Season 2 Is Sure To Explore More Of These Mysteries
Ahsoka season 2 is sure to reveal some of Peridea’s mysteries. The end of Ahsoka‘s first season saw Ahsoka Tano and her Padawan, Sabine Wren, stranded on Peridea; that means they’re going to have to explore. What’s more, they’re not the only ones, with rivals Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati also still on Peridea.
Showrunner Dave Filoni has already confirmed that secrets of the Mortis Gods will be revealed. But we can safely expect so much more; a glimpse of more extragalactic civilizations, or at the least the ruins of them. Even more excitingly, there were hints the once-lost Grand Admiral Thrawn encountered whole new threats out there.
Ahsoka season 2 will push Star Wars further beyond anything Lucas imagined, albeit building upon his foundation. And that couldn’t be much more exciting.
