Super Mario Bros. 2 Trailer Unveils тιтle & Game-Changing Expansion Of The Mario Universe

The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 has gotten a teaser trailer and a game-changing тιтle. Released in 2023, Universal’s record-breaking big-screen adaptation of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. franchise was a smash hit at the box office, grossing over $1 billion. It helped popularize video game adaptations and led to a sequel entering development, set to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.

Now, the studio has revealed the official тιтle of the upcoming sequel, along with a teaser trailer, indicating a mᴀssive expansion of the cinematic Super Mario Bros. world. тιтled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the sequel takes its inspiration from Nintendo’s video game of the same name, released in 2007.

The teaser trailer opens with Mario (Chris Pratt) sleeping under a tree with Princess Peach’s (Anya Taylor-Joy) castle seen in the distance. The camera follows a yellow ʙuттerfly as it travels beyond the castle to outer space. Check out this teaser below:

The тιтle reveal was part of Super Mario‘s 40th anniversary celebration. Also via Nintendo Direct, Nintendo also teased the launch of the beloved video games Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, arriving on October 2.

With this, there’ll be new pages in Rosalina’s in-game storybook, which follows a young girl’s journey through the cosmos in a makeshift spaceship and tells the origin story of Rosalina and the star-children, the Lumas. Given all these announcements, The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel is bound to feature some new characters.

Additionally, in a previous interview with Men’s Journal, Toad’s voice actor Keegan-Michael Key teased that the upcoming movie will have “deep cuts” and “old favorites.” Even during the development stage, the sequel has prepared “fantastic Easter eggs” to entertain the franchise’s die-hard fans.

However, the first Mario movie already dropped a few hints about its galactic expansion in the follow-up. The 2023 box office hit features a nihilistic blue Luma and uses Rainbow Road as a setting. Princess Peach also mentions Bowser (Jack Black) endangering the galaxy, potentially setting up the stage for the sequel to take place in space.

The тιтle reveal also further indicates that Rosalina will be a key figure in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, with her being the protector of the Lumas. While it’s unclear whether the nihilistic blue Luma will return, the teaser trailer does introduce a yellow Luma, the most common variety.
