With the age of streaming, there are many exciting Sci-Fi movies and TV shows to watch without leaving the comfort of home, and it turns out that a Marvel Cinematic Universe entry deserves a place on that list. Superhero movies can have Sci-Fi elements, but most of them are not necessarily tied to that genre.
That said, some of the MCU’s best movies lean heavily into Sci-Fi, and do so by crafting thrilling worlds that could be the source of even bigger exploration in the TV show format in the future. Fans of the genre might want to check out or rewatch the MCU movie with Sci-Fi elements that did a wonderful job of world-building for future Marvel releases.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Is The Perfect Sci-Fi Franchise Starter
The film in question is 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which viewers can watch right now on Disney+. The MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies focused on an obscure team from the comics, which allowed James Gunn to play with the characters’ personalities and backstories to make them pop onscreen. Guardians of the Galaxy iholds a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics.
Given the little knowledge the audience had regarding its characters and locations, the film does a solid job of explaining different alien races, character motivations, advanced technology, and more. There is a lot for Sci-Fi fans who might not even be inclined to watch superhero movies to enjoy. The film is all about opening up the MCU’s cosmic corner in a huge way.
It pᴀsses that test with flying colors. Locations like Knowhere and Xandar felt unique and looked gorgeous, with classic Sci-Fi visuals. The main team features only one human character, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, giving the audience someone to connect with as Peter Quill goes on adventures with friendly aliens and faces a wide range of enemies. The lighter tone of the film suits cosmic exploration perfectly.
The Guardians Of The Galaxy Trilogy Is One Of The MCU’s Best
If any Sci-Fi fan checks out Guardians of the Galaxy, I highly recommend continuing the franchise beyond the first movie. James Gunn crafted one of the most cohesive and exhilarating trilogies in the MCU, with a Holiday Special adding to the fun. The MCU characters grew a lot from the first Guardians of the Galaxy to Vol. 3.
That growth and the heartwarming feeling of watching a found family make the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise worth investing time in. Sci-Fi fans might also appreciate how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 leaves the door open for new adventures, but really ends the main story of the team, which MCU movies are not known to usually do.
