We’re Officially Just One Week Away From DC’s Next Batman Movie

Batman will soon be back with a new movie that might be flying under many fans’ radar, but the DC project promises to take the hero in a completely new direction. After the DCEU film timeline did not include a Batman solo movie, fans finally got to see the Dark Knight take to Gotham City’s rooftops in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

After that movie proved itself successful, a sequel had to be part of DC’s slate of projects. However, The Batman 2 has been delayed multiple times, arriving only in 2027. That has opened the door for another Batman movie to become the Dark Knight’s next film. The project is unlike anything done before in all the Batman movies, which makes it exciting.

Batman’s Next Movie Is Animated & Completely Different

While all eyes are on Batman’s live-action future, which pertains to The Batman franchise and James Gunn’s DC Universe, Batman’s next movie will actually be an animated film. The project is Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires, which changes the character’s world entirely. Instead of taking place in Gotham City and following Bruce Wayne, Aztec Batman is set in Tenochтιтlan, following Yohualli Coatl.

The animated movie uses classic Batman characters, such as the Joker and Two-Face, and explores how they would fit the time period and culture of the Aztec Empire. Batman’s father is killed by Two-Face, who is the leader of the conquistadors, Hernán Cortés, not Harvey Dent, which leads to the young Aztec boy becoming Batman.

The film releases on HBO Max on September 19 after a theatrical debut in Mexico the day before. While Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is Batman’s next movie, there are many different projects connected to the Dark Knight in different stages of development. Those include animated and live-action movies.

With Aztec Batman releasing next week, the next film related to the Dark Knight will be Clayface. The R-rated villain movie is currently filming, with Clayface set pH๏τos revealing Arkham Asylum and other Gotham City locations, as well as teasing villains such as the Joker. The movie takes place in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

Batman’s next live-action solo movie is October 1, 2027’s The Batman 2, which sees Robert Pattinson return as Bruce Wayne. It remains an Elseworlds story, with filming set to start in Spring 2026. Dynamic Duo, the innovative animated movie focused on the Robins Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, releases in theaters on June 30, 2028.

At this point, whether the animated movie is DCU canon has yet to be revealed. Finally, the DCU’s new Batman actor will star in a solo movie, the undated The Brave and the Bold, which features Damian Wayne’s live-action debut and is currently being written. To prepare for those projects, DC fans might want to watch Batman‘s next movie when it releases next week.
