The Conjuring: Last Rites has rocketed past a huge box office milestone. The movie is the ninth installment in the blockbuster horror franchise, which also includes the spinoff franchises The Nun and Annabelle. The Conjuring: Last Rites release kicked off on September 5, taking in a 3-day domestic debut of $84 million that marked the best of the franchise to date.
Warner Bros. has announced that The Conjuring: Last Rites has taken in an additional $10 million in 66 overseas markets on Monday, bringing the movie’s cumulative international gross to $120.3 million and cumulative worldwide gross to $210 million, making it only the 17th movie of 2025 to pᴀss the $200 million global milestone.
It is only the fourth horror movie of the year to do so, after Weapons, Final Destination Bloodlines, and Sinners. Additionally, this worldwide total has allowed it to climb up the all-time chart of the highest-grossing movies in The Conjuring Universe, surpᴀssing the $206.4 million gross of 2021’s The Devil Made Me Do It to become the eighth highest-grossing installment.
What This Means For The Conjuring: Last Rites
Ultimately, surpᴀssing the worldwide gross of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is not necessarily a huge accomplishment. The movie was released into a pandemic-depressed box office in 2021 and had its theatrical potential limited by the fact that it also had a day-and-date premiere on HBO Max.
However, what is impressive is the fact that it has done so before the end of its first full week in theaters. Given its current momentum, it seems highly likely that Last Rites will continue to climb the chart, outgrossing other Conjuring movies sooner rather than later.
The next movie in its sights is 2019’s Annabelle Comes Home, which grossed $231.2 million. In order to supplant it as No. 7 on the franchise’s all-time chart, Last Rites only needs to earn an additional $21.2 million. This should be quite easy, given the fact that it grossed half that amount in international markets alone on a weekday.
From there, it will only need $25.6 million to pᴀss 2014’s Annabelle and an additional $12.9 million to outgross 2023’s The Nun II. While there is still a huge gulf between itself and the highest-grossing installment, 2018’s The Nun ($366 million), Last Rites could very well take the lead before long.
Our Take On The Conjuring: Last Rites Box Office Milestone
2025’s The Conjuring: Last Rites may be excelling on the franchise chart, but it is also on the path toward major success as an individual installment, because its reported budget is only $55 million. While its exact break-even point is unknown, it likely isn’t much higher than $137.5 million, meaning the horror sequel has almost certainly already turned a solid profit.
While The Conjuring: Last Rites could suffer from the fact that horror movies are typically frontloaded and have harsh sophomore weekend drops of 50% or more, the fact that it has hit its estimated break-even point within less than five days puts it on solid footing as its theatrical run continues through the end of September and beyond.
