Americana‘s digital release date has been revealed. The new neo-Western crime drama movie, which stars Sydney Sweeney and follows a group of people fighting over the purchase of a valuable ghost shirt, is the feature directorial debut of Tony Tost (Poker Face). It originally debuted at SXSW in early 2023, but did not come to theaters until August 2025.

The Sydney Sweeney movie also features a star-studded ensemble cast. The Euphoria and Anyone But You actor’s co-stars include Paul Walter Hauser (The Fantastic Four: First Steps), Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy), Zahn McClarnon (Hawkeye, Longmire), Harriet Sansom Harris (Frasier), Toby Huss (King of the Hill), Simon Rex (Scary Movie 3, Red Rocket), and recording artist Halsey (MaXXXine).

Lionsgate has now announced that Americana will debut on digital on September 16. On that day, it will be available for 48-hour rental on Premium Video on Demand and for digital purchase on participating platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Google TV, YouTube. This digital release will give 2025’s Americana its best chance of proving itself after an underwhelming theatrical debut. Although it has a solid 63% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie premiered at No. 16 at the domestic box office with a 3-day debut of just $500,000.

That haul marked one of the 25 lowest opening weekends in history for a wide release playing in more than 1,000 theaters.

While Americana has a reported budget of $9 million, distributor Lionsgate is not on the hook for that cost. Additionally, they typically cover movies’ theatrical performances with international presales or other financial measures. While it is unknown if it has yet turned a profit, the movie’s digital release could help firm up its commercial prospects after its underwhelming debut.
