Jumanji 4’s Filming Start Window Confirmed By Dwayne Johnson (& It’s Shockingly Sooner Than We Thought)

In a recent talk at the Toronto International Film Festival, Dwayne Johnson issued an exciting filming update for Jumanji 4. The Jumanji franchise has evolved into one of Sony’s most dependable blockbusters since 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level. The rebooted series has raked in over $1.7 billion worldwide, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

Following the success of The Next Level, a third film was reportedly in development, although it experienced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Jake Kasdan’s Red One. In 2024, Sony confirmed that the unтιтled Jumanji 4 (or Jumanji 3 in Kasdan’s modern reboot franchise) will release on December 11, 2026, keeping with the franchise’s traditional pre-Christmas release window.

Kasdan will return as director, alongside the reboot’s stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, who have all expressed excitement to reprise their roles. Longtime producers Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Kasdan will also be back, with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg penning the screenplay. However, after a long silence, a production update has now been announced.

Speaking at TIFF, which ScreenRant attended, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that Jumanji 4 will begin filming in November 2025. During the In Conversation With… Dwayne Johnson panel, the actor also revealed the secret to his comedic chemistry with longtime co-star Kevin Hart, which began with Central Intelligence. Check out what Johnson had to say below:

With Jumanji‘s Dwayne Johnson announcing that cameras will begin rolling in November and the previously announced release date locked in, Jumanji 4 is officially back on track. Thankfully, this major filming update confirms that the long-awaited sequel is no longer in development limbo, as it is heading into production at the end of 2025 with momentum.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, Hart has indicated that Jumanji 4 could be the final film in the franchise. Furthermore, in 2019, shortly after the second installment of the rebooted series was released, Johnson claimed that The Next Level‘s Jurgen the Brutal was an avatar and his player idenтιтy would be explored in the next film.

Considering the long wait for a follow-up to 2019’s The Next Level, this update is exactly what Jumanji fans have been waiting for. With Johnson confirming a November shoot, the timeline now aligns perfectly with Jumanji 4‘s December 2026 release, and with the core cast expected to return, the pieces are in place for another crowd-pleasing, holiday box office smash.

The chemistry between Johnson and Hart remains a standout element, as their natural dynamic continues to drive the heart and comedy of the franchise. Now it is up to director Jake Kasdan and the writing team to build on the momentum of the last two films while introducing new stakes, to allow Jumanji 4 to level up in every way.
