Alan Ritchson opens up about what other opportunities may lie ahead for him in James Gunn’s DC Universe. As The Brave and the Bold movie remains in active development at DC Studios, Ritchson has been, for the longest time, one of the all-time most popular fan-casting choices for the Caped Crusader.
However, Ritchson as Batman in the DCU got a disappointing update recently, after the actor shared his uncertainty about landing the gig. While someone else may play Bruce Wayne for DC Studios’ new superhero continuity, that doesn’t mean the star couldn’t play an additional character in the franchise.
In a new interview with Liam Saul (a.k.a. @LiamLovesMovies), the Reacher star followed up on his recent Batman comments, as he was asked if he would be open to playing Aquaman again (the actor’s first DC role on Smallville), but for Gunn’s franchise. Ritchson stressed that he would like to tackle “new horizons,” while also offering the following tease:
No, I would never take that from [Jason Momoa]. I have too much respect. I would definitely want to explore new horizons, and I have a feeling we may. We’ll see.

When Saul followed up by sharing how he would enjoy seeing the actor as DC’s Wildcat, a prominent member of the Justice Society of America, Ritchson had the following response:
Okay – yeah I do! [When asked if he knows who Wildcat is] That could be fun!
What Alan Ritchson’s DCU Comments Mean
While the Dark Knight is seemingly not in his future, there are plenty of characters for Ritchson to be cast as in the DCU, and from these latest comments, it definitely sounds like he and Gunn have had some discussions about that possibility. After confirming that he had met with Gunn, where Batman was discussed, it makes sense if they have considered other opportunities already.
At this point, it may simply be about when rather than if Ritchson will join the DCU timeline, as DC Studios is clearly interested in working with him in some capacity. Based on his comments, whoever he plays in Gunn’s universe will ideally be something he hasn’t played before.
Our Take On Alan Ritchson’s DCU Comments
Given what a mᴀssive DC fan he is himself, as well as a talented star who has been on the rise over the last couple of years, it’s great to hear that there will be something for the audience to look forward to with Ritchson in the DCU. With all the Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” movies and TV shows, there are plenty of places to fit him in.
Even if he doesn’t join DC Studios’ main continuity right away, the wait will ideally be worth it if he is tapped for a huge role. Hopefully, more details on Ritchson’s place in the DC Universe will emerge sooner rather than later, and audience members will get to see another popular star joining the franchise.
